Introduction: A rare case of basaloid squamous cell carcinoma (BSCC) of the larynx, which has not been previously reported, is described.
Case Report: A 60-year-old man was presented to the Otolaryngology Department with progressive dyspnoea and dysphagia to solids for over a period of 1 week. Direct laryngoscopy revealed a tumour at the laryngeal aspect of the epiglottis, which prolapsed into the laryngeal inlet each time the patient inspired. This resulted in an inspiratory stridor despite adequate glottic opening and normal mobility of the vocal cords.
Conclusion: Therefore, in cases where a ball-valve lesion causes intermittent life-threatening airway obstruction, BSCC of the larynx, though rare, must be considered as a differential diagnosis.

Objectives: Esophageal basaloid squamous cell carcinoma (basaloid ESCC) is an uncommon variant of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). We characterized the tumor immune microenvironment features of basaloid ESCC, and compared them with conventional ESCC.
Methods And Results: One hundred and four basaloid ESCC patients and 55 conventional ESCC patients were included in Cohort 1.

In homeostatic conditions, the basal progenitor cells of the esophagus differentiate into a stratified squamous epithelium. However, in the setting of acid exposure or inflammation, there is a marked failure of basal cell differentiation, leading to basal cell hyperplasia. We have previously shown that lysyl oxidase (LOX), a collagen crosslinking enzyme, is upregulated in the setting of allergic inflammation of the esophagus; however, its role beyond collagen crosslinking is unknown.

Penile intraepithelial neoplasia (PeIN) and penile squamous cell carcinoma (PeSCC) are both thought to be associated with male genital lichen sclerosus and human papillomavirus (HPV) infection through dichotomous pathways: (i) undifferentiated PeIN and warty/basaloid PeSCC are thought to be HPV related, whereas (ii) differentiated PeIN and usual PeSCC are considered HPV independent. Tissue arrays were constructed from male genital lichen sclerosus, undifferentiated and differentiated PeIN, usual-type PeSCC, and unaffected tissues. Staining for p16 and for high-risk and low-risk HPV subtypes through RNAscope was performed.

This study aimed to compare computed tomography (CT) findings between basaloid lung squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and non-basaloid SCC. From July 2003 to April 2021, 39 patients with surgically proven basaloid SCC were identified. For comparison, 161 patients with surgically proven non-basaloid SCC from June 2018 to January 2019 were selected consecutively.

A major paradigm shift in the diagnosis, management, and survival outcomes of early and advanced non-small cell lung cancer has transpired over the past few decades in thoracic oncology with the incorporation of molecular testing, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, neoadjuvant, and adjuvant approaches. However, transformation in the management and survival outcomes of rare lung tumors is lacking. Given the scarcity of these tumor types, randomized trials are rarely performed, and treatment is extrapolated from case series, tumor-agnostic trials, or cancers with similar histology.
