Encapsulation of water-soluble bioactive compounds for enabling specific accumulation in tumor locations, while avoiding premature clearance and/or degradation in the bloodstream, is one of the main hallmarks in nanomedicine, especially that of NIR fluorescent probes for cancer theragnosis. The herein reported technology furnishes water-dispersible double-walled polyurethane-polyurea hybrid nanocapsules (NCs) loaded with indocyanine green (ICG-NCs), using a versatile and highly efficient one-pot and industrially scalable synthetic process based on the use of two different prepolymers to set up the NCs walls. Flow cytometry and confocal microscopy confirmed that both ICG-loaded NCs internalized in monocyte-derived dendritic cells (moDCs).

Dendrite growth and volume expansion in lithium metal are the most important obstacles affecting the actual applications of lithium metal batteries. Herein, we design a robust flexible artificial solid electrolyte interphase layer based on a triblock copolymer polyurea film, which promotes uniform lithium deposition on the surface of the lithium metal electrode and has a high lithium-ion transference number. The high elasticity and close contact of polyurea compounds effectively suppress lithium dendrite growth and volume expansion in the Li anode, which are effectively confirmed by electrochemical characterization and optical microscopy observation.

As an emerging and potential replacement system for liquid electrolytes, polymer electrolytes (PEs) exhibit unique capacity in suppressing metal dendrite formation and leakage risks. However, the most used polymer matrix, including polyether, polyester, and polysiloxane, still cannot meet the practical demands for metal electrode compatibility and long lifespan. In this study, gel polymer electrolytes consisting of a polyurea network with abundant hydrogen bonds and deep eutectic electrolyte (DEE) are designed and prepared in-situ.

Metallic Li is considered as one of the most promising anode materials for next-generation batteries due to its high theoretical capacity and low electrochemical potential. However, its commercialization has been impeded by the severe safety issues associated with Li-dendrite growth. Non-uniform Li-ion flux on the Li-metal surface and the formation of unstable solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) during the Li plating/stripping process lead to the growth of dendritic and mossy Li structures that deteriorate the cycling performance and can cause short-circuits.
