Objective: To analyze the audiologic results of cochlear implantation in bilateral severe to profound sensorineural hearing loss following head trauma.

Methods: A retrospective study of our cochlear implantation cases in bilateral severe to profound sensorineural hearing loss following head trauma (with or without temporal bone fractures). Four patients in second hospital of Shandong university were analyzed in this study.

Results: All the patients received unilateral cochlear implantation and gained open-set speech perception ranging from 92% to 100%. The aided hearing threshold ranged from 30 dBHL to 35 dBHL. None of them experienced a decrease in the hearing performance in the follow-up (1-2 years).

Conclusion: With sufficient preoperative assessment, cochlear implantation is an effective management for hearing rehabilitation in bilateral severe to profound sensorineural hearing loss following head trauma.

Mucosal antigen-specific T cells are pivotal for pathogen clearance and immune modulation in respiratory infections. Dysregulated T cell responses exacerbate coronavirus disease 2019 severity, marked by cytokine storms and respiratory failure. Despite extensive description in peripheral blood, the characteristics of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)-specific T cells in the lungs remain elusive.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-1 (SARS-CoV-1) and -2 (SARS-CoV-2) are beta-coronaviruses (β-CoVs) that have caused significant morbidity and mortality worldwide. Therefore, a better understanding of host responses to β-CoVs would provide insights into the pathogenesis of these viruses to identify potential targets for medical countermeasures. In this study, our objective is to use a systems biology approach to explore the magnitude and scope of innate immune responses triggered by SARS-CoV-1 and -2 infection over time in pathologically relevant human lung epithelial cells (Calu-3/2B4 cells).

Psychotic disorders, such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, pose significant diagnostic challenges with major implications on mental health. The measures of resting-state fMRI spatiotemporal complexity offer a powerful tool for identifying irregularities in brain activity. To capture global brain connectivity, we employed information-theoretic metrics, overcoming the limitations of pairwise correlation analysis approaches.

Microcephaly affects 1 in 2,500 babies per year. Primary microcephaly results from aberrant neurogenesis leading to a small brain at birth. This is due to altered patterns of proliferation and/or early differentiation of neurons.

Aims And Background: Fostering a positive dental attitude in children to enhance their oral health status and engaging them positively throughout their dental experience is the cornerstone of pediatric dentistry practices. The behavior of the child in a dental setting depends upon their emotional, psychological, and mental developmental state. Children with special health needs tend to have more anxiety than healthy children.
