Experiments were conducted to determine the respiration rate of tomato at 10, 20 and 30 °C using closed respiration system. Oxygen depletion and carbon dioxide accumulation in the system containing tomato was monitored. Respiration rate was found to decrease with increasing CO2 and decreasing O2 concentration. Michaelis-Menten type model based on enzyme kinetics was evaluated using experimental data generated for predicting the respiration rate. The model parameters that obtained from the respiration rate at different O2 and CO2 concentration levels were used to fit the model against the storage temperatures. The fitting was fair (R2 = 0.923 to 0.970) when the respiration rate was expressed as O2 concentation. Since inhibition constant for CO2 concentration tended towards negetive, the model was modified as a function of O2 concentration only. The modified model was fitted to the experimental data and showed good agreement (R2 = 0.998) with experimentally estimated respiration rate.

Background: Intermediate-high risk pulmonary embolism (PE) carries a significant risk of hemodynamic deterioration or death. Treatment should balance efficacy in reducing clot burden with the risk of complications, particularly bleeding. Previous studies on high-dose, short-term thrombolysis with alteplase (rtPA) showed a reduced risk of hemodynamic deterioration but no change in mortality and increased bleeding complications.

Chronic hyperoxia during early postnatal development depresses breathing when neonatal rats are returned to room air and causes long-lasting attenuation of the hypoxic ventilatory response (HVR). In contrast, little is known about the control of breathing of juvenile or adult mammals after chronic exposure to moderate hyperoxia later in life. Therefore, Sprague-Dawley rats were exposed to 60% O for 7 days (juveniles) or for 4 and 14 days (adults) and ventilation was measured by whole-body plethysmography immediately after the exposure or following a longer period of recovery in room air.

Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the competitive demands of mountain running races of varying lengths.
Methods: Sixty-six male athletes competed in Vertical race (∼3 km and ∼1000 m of total elevation change), Sky race (∼25 km and ∼3000 m of total elevation change), and SkyUltra race (∼80 km and ∼9000 m of total elevation change). Exercise intensity and competition load (TL) were assessed using running power, heart rate, and rating of perceived exertion (RPE).

Introduction: The objective of our study was to estimate the influenza vaccine effectiveness for 2023/24 epidemic of co-circulating influenza A(H3N2) and B(Victoria) viruses in Beijing, China.
Methods: The surveillance-based study included all swabbed patients through influenza virological surveillance in Beijing, between October 2023 and March 2024. A Test-Negative Design(TND) was used to estimate influenza vaccine effectiveness(VE) against medically- attended laboratory-confirmed influenza in outpatient settings, also calculated the influenza vaccination rate(IVR).
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is increasingly a recognized cause of severe respiratory infection among adults. This retrospective observational study compared the costs of RSV and influenza hospitalizations in adults aged ≥18 years admitted to the Spanish National Healthcare System between 2016 and 2019. Mean costs per hospitalization episode were compared using a multivariable log-gamma generalized linear model adjusted by age, risk group and calendar year.
