Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) is used for the maintenance dialysis in patients with end stage renal disease. Treatment's complications in CAPD generally exist, of which transudate hydrothorax falls under the minority of the cases. Here, we aim to present a case of a 51 years old female, a newly diagnosed case of chronic kidney disease (CKD) undergoing CAPD for 3 weeks who presented at our institution with complaints of difficulty in breathing.

Lung ultrasonic B-lines have high accuracy in diagnosing extravascular lung water (ELW) but have not been systematically subcategorized to differentiate the varied etiologies of ELW. This brief communication describes subcategories of B-lines into "inflammatory" and "transudative" patterns, based on their location, pleural morphology and associated subpleural pathologies. This subcategorization was derived using information from trainees undergoing lung ultrasound training in the program, pathophysiological principles and their corresponding ultrasound correlates.

We present an uncommon pathology of Boerhaave's syndrome and its fatal outcome in a 77-year-old man who presented to the emergency room with loss of consciousness and a history of chronic cough that had increased in intensity over the past week. Radiological investigations revealed bilateral pleural effusion, initially pointing to a transudative aetiology. Diagnostic pleural aspiration showed an exudative effusion with high amylase, and an intercostal drainage tube was inserted for the left massive effusion.

Background: In dogs, simplified Light's criteria can discriminate transudates from exudates. Other tests used in human medicine are pleural effusion cholesterol (CHOL) and butyrylcholinesterase [BChE], the pleural effusion/serum ratio of these analytes (CHOL and BChE), and the serum albumin minus pleural effusion albumin gradient (SEAG).

Objectives: We aimed to assess the diagnostic accuracies of different biomarkers in dogs with pleural effusion in differentiating exudates from transudates.

Unilateral pleural effusions may sometimes be difficult to diagnose. The cause may vary widely, including congestive heart failure, chronic liver and kidney disease, various drugs, and underlying undiagnosed disorders of the lung and pleura. With advancements in chest imaging, new biomarkers, and less invasive methods for obtaining tissue samples, it may be possible to identify the cause of the unilateral pleural effusions whose etiology is unclear.
