Published: July 2015

A new route to the synthesis of highly b-oriented zeolite MFI films is demonstrated for the first time using ammonium salts as crystallization-mediating agents in secondary growth. The ammonium salts tailor the crystallization process and silicate-NH4(+) interactions dominate over TPA-NH4(+) interactions so that nucleation was effectively suppressed during secondary growth.

Zwitterionic energetic materials offer a unique combination of high performance and stability, yet their synthesis and stability enhancement remain key challenges. In this study, we report the synthesis of a highly stable (dinitromethyl-functionalized zwitterionic compound, 1-(amino(iminio)methyl)-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrazol-5-yl)dinitromethanide (), with a thermal decomposition temperature of 215 °C, surpassing that of most previously reported energetic monocyclic zwitterions ( < 150 °C). This compound was synthesized via intramolecular cyclization of a trinitromethyl-functionalized hydrazone precursor.

Pyridines can be deuterated at the remote sites by treatment with KOBu in DMSO- , although without discrimination between the - and -position. Herein, base-catalyzed deuterations have been studied, computationally and experimentally, using a series of pyridyl phosphonium salts with a temporary electron-withdrawing group to block the -position while increasing the acidity in the other positions.

Cationic gemini surfactants are used due to their broad spectrum of activity, especially surface, anticorrosive and antimicrobial properties. Mixtures of cationic and anionic surfactants are also increasingly described. In order to investigate the effect of anionic additive on antimicrobial activity, experimental studies were carried out to obtain MIC (minimal inhibitory concentration) against and bacteria.
