In a recent paper [A. J. Window et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 107, 016105 (2011)], it was proposed that V_{2}O_{3}(0001) is terminated by the so-called O_{3} termination, a reconstruction with a terminating distorted hexagonal oxygen layer. We show that the surface is terminated by vanadyl (V═O) groups instead. This conclusion is based on quantitative low-energy electron diffraction combined with scanning tunneling microscopy, fast atom scattering, and density functional theory employing the Heyd-Scuseria-Ernzerhof functional. New insights into the subsurface sensitivity of ion beam triangulation show that results previously interpreted in favor of the O_{3} termination are reconcilable with vanadyl termination as well.

Robust bipolar devices based on exclusively ultrawide bandgap (UWBG) semiconductors are highly desired for advanced power electronics. The heterojunction strategy has been a prevailing method for fabricating a bipolar device due to the lack of effective bipolar doping in the same UWBG material. Here, we demonstrate a unique heterojunction design integrating the p-type diamond and n-type ε-GaO that achieves remarkable breakdown voltages surpassing 3000 V.

Comparative analysis of extracellular and cell wall glycans from Urtica cannabina leaves was performed using chemical methods, GC, GC-MS, 1D, and 2D NMR spectroscopy. The structures of extracellular AG-II and cell wall AG-II are similar. The units are typical for AG-IIs: β-GlcpA-4-OMe-(1→, Rhap-(1 → 4)-β-GlcpA-(1→, attached to β-Galp at O-6, as well as arabinan chains attached to β-Galp at O-3.

The study focuses on Palm fruit Fibers (PF) extracted from the palmyra palm tree (Borassus flabellifer) treated with 5 % alkali solution (NaOH). This treatment eliminates impurities from the fiber surface and enhances bonding with the epoxy matrix. Epoxy composites, reinforced with PF/nanofillers (h-BN, AlO and MWCNT), are developed by using the box Behnken method (BBD) and dielectric constant is investigated under high-frequency and electrical field conditions.

In this work, trivalent rare earth (RE)-rich borate glasses (30 LaO-70 BO, 50 LaO-50 BO, 60 LaO-40 BO, and 50 YO-50 BO) were modeled using ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) simulations through the melt-quenching route. It was found that the AIMD-derived structures reproduced the experimental structure factors and B solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance data. Isolated borate units (monomers, dimers, and trimers) terminated with nonbridging oxygen were found in the structures.
