Article Synopsis
  • Upadacitinib shows promise for treating inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), with a real-world study involving 100 patients indicating effectiveness and safety over a median follow-up period of 7.6 months.
  • Clinical remission rates were 59% at week 8 and 64% at week 12, with higher success in ulcerative colitis (UC) patients previously treated with tofacitinib.
  • Despite some discontinuation of treatment (23 patients), factors like UC diagnosis and lower disease activity at baseline correlated with better remission outcomes, while 43 patients experienced adverse events.

Background: Telemonitoring for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has not consistently demonstrated superiority over standard care; however, noninferiority may be an acceptable outcome if remote care proves to be more efficient.

Objective: This study aims to compare the remission time and quality of life of patients with active IBD managed through standard care versus the TECCU (Telemonitoring of Crohn Disease and Ulcerative Colitis) app.

Methods: A 2-arm, randomized, multicenter trial with a noninferiority design was conducted across 24 hospitals in Spain.
