A putative gene for a transcriptional regulator (ophR) was detected near each copy of the duplicated phthalate-degrading operon of Rhodococcus sp. DK17. Sequence analysis and molecular modeling indicate that OphR belongs to the IclR family of transcriptional regulators and possesses the N-terminal DNA-binding and C-terminal effector-binding domains. DNA-binding assays demonstrate that OphR regulates the phthalate operon by binding to the ophA1-ophR intergenic region.

Serrated polyposis syndrome (SPS) is characterized by the development of multiple colorectal serrated polyps and increased predisposition to colorectal cancer (CRC). However, the molecular basis of SPS, especially in cases presenting family history of SPS and/or polyps and/or CRC in first-degree relatives (SPS-FHP/CRC), is still poorly understood. In a previous study, we proposed the existence of two molecular entities amongst SPS-FHP/CRC families, proximal/whole-colon and distal SPS-FHP/CRC, according to the preferential location of lesions and somatic events involved in tumor initiation.

The halophilic archaeon Haloarcula hispanica utilizes the sugar alcohols mannitol and sorbitol as carbon and energy sources. Genes, enzymes, and transcriptional regulators involved in uptake and degradation of these sugar alcohols were identified by growth experiments with deletion mutants and enzyme characterization. It is shown that both mannitol and sorbitol are taken up via a single ABC transporter of the CUT1 transporter family.

The plant pathogenic bacterium Burkholderia glumae causes bacterial panicle blight (BPB) in rice-growing areas worldwide. It has been widely accepted that an acyl-homoserine lactone (AHL)-type quorum sensing (QS) system encoded by tofI and tofR genes (TofIR QS) is a key regulatory mechanism underlying the bacterial pathogenesis of B. glumae.

Transcription factor (TF)-based biosensors are useful synthetic biology tools for applications in a variety of areas of biotechnology. A major challenge of biosensor circuits is the limited repertoire of identified and well-characterized TFs for applications of interest, in addition to the challenge of optimizing selected biosensors. In this work, we implement the IclR family repressor TF TtgV from DOT-T1E as an indole-derivative biosensor in .
