GWAS-Significant Loci and Uterine Fibroids Risk: Analysis of Associations, Gene-Gene and Gene-Environmental Interactions.

Front Biosci (Schol Ed)

December 2024

Laboratory of Genomic Research, Research Institute for Genetic and Molecular Epidemiology, Kursk State Medical University, 305041 Kursk, Russia.

Background: Uterine fibroids (UF) is the most common benign tumour of the female reproductive system. We investigated the joint contribution of genome-wide association studies (GWAS)-significant loci and environment-associated risk factors to the UF risk, along with epistatic interactions between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs).

Methods: DNA samples from 737 hospitalised patients with UF and 451 controls were genotyped using probe-based PCR for seven common GWAS SNPs: rs117245733 , rs547025 rs2456181 , rs7907606 , , rs58415480 , rs7986407 , and rs72709458 .

Sinonasal leiomyoma is an exceptionally rare neoplasm arising from smooth muscle cells within the sinonasal tract. This abstract presents a case study of a 43-year-old male patient diagnosed with sinonasal leiomyoma, a distinctive and challenging entity in otolaryngology. The patient presented with a complex clinical history, including a 2-year interval between initial evaluation and definitive diagnosis.

Adnexal torsion is a well-recognized gynecologic emergency; however, uterine torsion is less well-known. The majority of uterine torsions occur in gravid uteri; torsion in postmenopausal patients is rare. We report a case of uterine and bilateral adnexal torsion in a postmenopausal woman due to a large leiomyoma.

Program in Reproductive Endocrinology and Gynecology, Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, Bethesda, MD, USA; Department of Gynecologic Surgery and Obstetrics, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Bethesda, MD. Electronic address:

Objective: To determine if the oral GnRH antagonist relugolix affects leiomyoma extracellular matrix production through the TGF β pathway DESIGN: Laboratory Study SUBJECTS: None.

Intervention: Exposure of human leiomyoma cells to TGF β and/or relugolix MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Production of TGF β, pSMAD2/3, SMAD2/3, COL1A1, FN1 and VCAN in treated and untreated leiomyoma cells RESULTS: TGF β3 production was decreased at 24 hours with relugolix at 10nM (0.80 + 0.
