Published: July 2015

The unusual aromatic stability of cyclic bicalicene has been suggested to come from a tetraionic structure, where positive and negative charges are located on the cyclopropene and cyclopentadiene rings, respectively. Energetic, magnetic, geometric and electron delocalization analysis performed on a series of bicalicene derivatives, incorporating different electron donating and withdrawing groups, and electrically perturbed bicalicene structures provide additional proof of the role played by this tetraionic structure in the aromatic stability of bicalicene. In this work the aromatic stabilization is chemically and electrically tuned, enhancing or disrupting the electron delocalization and aromatic stability of the cyclopropene and cyclopentadiene rings by increasing or decreasing their corresponding charges. It is shown how the electron delocalization within these rings is similar to that of cyclopropene cation and cyclopentadiene anion for a perfect polarization of one electron.

Enhanced photocatalytic degradation of Rhodamine B using polyaniline-coated XTiO(X = Co, Ni) nanocomposites.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Laboratory of Materials, Nanotechnologies and Environment, Center of Sciences of Materials, Faculty of Sciences, Mohammed V University in Rabat, Avenue Ibn Battouta, BP:1014, 10000, Rabat, Morocco.

In this study, novel polyaniline-coated perovskite nanocomposites (PANI@CoTiO and PANI@NiTiO) were synthesized using an in situ oxidative polymerization method and evaluated for the photocatalytic degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) a persistent organic pollutant. The nanocomposites displayed significantly enhanced photocatalytic efficiency compared to pure perovskites. The 1%wt PANI@NiTiO achieved an impressive 94% degradation of RhB under visible light after 180 min, while 1wt.

Cathodic Deoxygenative Alkylation of Nitro(hetero)arenes with Organic Halides.

January 2025

School of Environmental and Chemical Engineering, Wuyi University, Jiangmen 529090, P. R. China.

We have realized a cathodic deoxygenative alkylation between nitro(hetero)arenes and organic halides, employing bis(pinacolato)diboron (Bpin) and LiCl as additives to trap and stabilize the generated alkyl radicals and carbanions, thereby facilitating efficient N-O cleavage and selective C-N bond formation. The protocol offers an economical method for the efficient synthesis of multiple aromatic(hetero) amines, without the need for reactive reductants and the exclusion of air and moisture. Notably, the protocol is distinguished by scalability, broad functional group compatibility, and safe and mild conditions, demonstrating practicality in the synthesis and late-stage modification of various bioactive compounds.

January 2025

BCMaterials, Basque Center for Materials, Applications, and Nanostructures, UPV/EHU Science Park, Leioa, 48940, Spain.

The growing demand for environmentally friendly semiconductors that can be tailored and developed easily is compelling researchers and technologists to design inherently bio-compatible, self-assembling nanostructures with tunable semiconducting characteristics. Peptide-based bioinspired materials exhibit a variety of supramolecular morphologies and have the potential to function as organic semiconductors. Such biologically or naturally derived peptides with intrinsic semiconducting characteristics create new opportunities for sustainable biomolecule-based optoelectronics devices.

Forest Soil pH and Dissolved Organic Matter Aromaticity Are Distinct Drivers for Soil Microbial Community and Carbon Metabolism Potential.

January 2025

State Environmental Protection Key Laboratory of Integrated Surface Water-Groundwater Pollution Control, School of Environmental Science and Engineering, Southern University of Science and Technology, Shenzhen, 518055, Guangdong, China.

The ecological niche separation of microbial interactions in forest ecosystems is critical to maintaining ecological balance and biodiversity and has yet to be comprehensively explored in microbial ecology. This study investigated the impacts of soil properties on microbial interactions and carbon metabolism potential in forest soils across 67 sites in China. Using redundancy analysis and random forest models, we identified soil pH and dissolved organic matter (DOM) aromaticity as the primary drivers of microbial interactions, representing abiotic conditions and resource niches, respectively.
