Some new complexes of [NiL(PR3)] (where L=(E)-1-[(2-amino-5-nitrophenyl)iminio-methyl]naphthalene-2-olate (L(1)), (E)-1-[(2-hydroxiphenyl)iminio-methyl]naphthalene-2-olate (L(2)), R=Bu and Ph) containing tridentate ONN and ONO Schiff bases were synthesized and characterized by IR, UV-Vis, (1)H-NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The geometry of [NiL(1)(PBu3)] and [NiL(2)(PBu3)] complexes were determined by X-ray crystallography. It was indicated that the complexes have a square planar structure and four coordinates in the solid state. Theoretical calculations were also performed to optimize the structures of the ligands and complexes in the gas phase and ethanol solvent, separately to confirm the structures proposed by X-ray crystallography. In addition, UV-Visible and IR spectra of the complexes were calculated and compared with the corresponding experimental spectra to complete the experimental structural identification.

Spore germination in is initiated by a cascade of activities of several proteins that culminates in the activation of SleC, a cell-wall-processing enzyme. We report herein the details of the enzymatic activities of SleC by the use of synthetic peptidoglycan fragments and of spore sacculi. The reactions include the formation of 1,6-anhydromuramate─a hallmark of lytic transglycosylase activity─as well as a muramate hydrolytic product, both of which proceed through the same transient oxocarbenium species.

The experimental electron density distributions in two coordination compounds - one with a central Cu(I) atom and the other with Cu(II), coordinated by the same biphenyldiimino dithioether (bite) type of ligand - have been obtained from high-resolution X-ray reflection data to model the possible electron predisposition for the redox reaction in blue copper proteins. The bite ligand has been adapted to the conformation required by the central atom.

However, enhancing the functionality of well-established, mass-produced compounds remains a considerable challenge, despite being an intriguing strategy for designing high-value organic materials with low production costs. In this context, vat dyes, known for their wide range of colors and extensive use in the textile industry are particularly attractive.

Chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) is primarily treated using imatinib mesylate, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) targeting the BCR::ABL1 oncoprotein. However, the development of drug resistance and adverse side effects necessitate the exploration of alternative therapeutic agents. This study presents the synthesis and characterization of a novel imatinib analogue, 3-chloro--(2-methyl-5-((4-(pyridin-2-yl)pyrimidin-2-yl)amino)phenyl)benzamide (PAPP1).

Type VI secretion systems (T6SS) are dynamic protein nanomachines found in Gram-negative bacteria that deliver toxic effector proteins into target cells in a contact-dependent manner. Prior to secretion, many T6SS effector proteins require chaperones and/or accessory proteins for proper loading onto the structural components of the T6SS apparatus. However, despite their established importance, the precise molecular function of several T6SS accessory protein families remains unclear.
