Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the potential relationship between Hashimoto's thyroiditis and BRAF(V600E) mutation status in patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC).
Methods: A total of 619 patients with PTC who underwent total thyroidectomy with lymph node dissection were enrolled in this study. Univariable and multivariate analyses were used.
Results: Hashimoto's thyroiditis was present in 35.9% (222 of 619) of PTCs. Multivariate logistic regressions showed that BRAF(V600E) mutation, sex, extrathyroidal extension, and lymph node metastasis were independent factors for Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Female sex, more frequent extrathyroidal extension, and a higher incidence of lymph node metastasis were significantly associated with PTCs accompanied by BRAF(V600E) mutation without Hashimoto's thyroiditis compared with PTCs accompanied by BRAF(V600E) mutation with Hashimoto's thyroiditis.
Conclusion: Hashimoto's thyroiditis was negatively associated with BRAF(V600E) mutation, extrathyroidal extension, and lymph node metastasis. In addition, Hashimoto's thyroiditis was related to less lymph node metastasis and extrathyroidal extension in PTCs with BRAF(V600E) mutation. Therefore, Hashimoto's thyroiditis is a potentially protective factor in PTC. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Head Neck 38: E1019-E1025, 2016.

Autoimmune polyglandular syndrome type 3 (APS-3) is an uncommon condition marked by autoimmune thyroid disease (ATD) linked with other autoimmune issues, excluding Addison's disease. We report a case of a 41-year-old man who was hospitalized due to exhaustion and macrocytic anemia, later diagnosed with APS-3, which included Hashimoto's thyroiditis, pernicious anemia resulting from autoimmune gastritis, and pre-existing vitiligo. Diagnostic results indicated positive intrinsic factor antibodies, a gastric biopsy compatible with gastritis, elevated thyroid peroxidase antibodies, and significant findings from a thyroid ultrasound.

Background And Objectives: Antibody-negative autoimmune encephalitis (AE) is a form of encephalitis characterized by the absence of detectable autoimmune antibodies, despite immunological evidence. However, data on management of patients with antibody-negative AE in the intensive care unit (ICU) are limited. This study aimed to explore the characteristics and subtypes of antibody-negative AE, assess the effects of immunotherapy, and identify factors independently associated with poor functional outcomes in patients requiring intensive care.

Tissue-level oscillation is achieved by tissue-intrinsic clocks along with network-dependent signals originating from distal organs and organismal behavior. Yet, it remains unexplored whether maternal circadian rhythms during pregnancy influence fetal rhythms and impact long-term susceptibility to dietary challenges in offspring. Here, we demonstrate that circadian disruption during pregnancy decreased placental and neonatal weight yet retained transcriptional and structural maturation.

This study aimed to evaluate the recent trends in single-fraction conventional radiotherapy (CRT) as palliative treatment in Japan, using data from the National Database published by the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare. Data from fiscal year (FY) 2014 to FY2022, specifically related to the utilization of single-fraction CRT, were analyzed. Multi-fraction CRT, stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), and brachytherapy were excluded.

The increase of the incidence of autoimmune diseases and, at the same time, a significant surge in the number of regenerative/anti-aging medicine treatments carried out, raises the need to systematise the current knowledge on the safety of the use of hyaluronic acid fillers in patients with autoimmune diseases and to frame management guidelines for aesthetic doctors. One of the most prevalent autoimmune diseases is chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis, so-called Hashimoto's disease, which affects one in every 5-10 women who visit a regenerative medicine doctor. Women in the perimenopausal and menopausal period, aged 40-54 years, were the single largest target group for aesthetic treatments.
