Objectives: To investigate the efficacy and safety of prolonged azithromycin (PAZM) versus switching to doxycycline (SDXC) in the treatment of macrolide-unresponsive pneumonia (MUMPP) in children.

Methods: A total of 173 children with MUMPP who were hospitalized in Baoji Central Hospital, from January to December 2023 were selected as subjects. According to the choice of secondary antibiotic after 72 hours of initial macrolide therapy, they were divided into two groups: PAZM and SDXC.

Introduction: The World Health Organization added methicillin-resistant S aureus (MRSA) to the list of "priority pathogens," given its capacity to cause life-threatening infections. Clindamycin is a preferred treatment for non-complicated S aureus-induced skin and soft tissue infections. Its good tissue penetration and oral absorption make it suitable for outpatient therapy.

Clinical Consequences of Delayed Gastric Emptying With GLP-1 Receptor Agonists and Tirzepatide.

J Clin Endocrinol Metab

December 2024

Diabetes, Endocrinology, Metabolism Section, Medical Department I, Katholisches Klinikum Bochum gGmbH, Sankt Josef-Hospital, Ruhr-University, D-44791 Bochum, Germany.

Article Synopsis
  • Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) are commonly used to manage type 2 diabetes and obesity, helping to slow gastric emptying which can help control blood sugar levels but may lead to issues like retained gastric contents during medical procedures.
  • A review of studies indicates that while retained gastric contents during endoscopy is more common with GLP-1 RA usage, serious complications like pulmonary aspiration are rare, but guidelines for managing these medications during procedures are limited and not well-defined.
  • To enhance patient safety, further research is needed on strategies such as extended fasting before procedures, ultrasound checks for gastric contents, and the potential use of prokinetic drugs like erythromycin.

Nanotechnology and nanoscience are due to their numerous uses in medicine, engineering, and water pollution sensors and their expanding research fields. In this study, the essential oil, methanolic extract, and biosynthesized silver/silver oxide nanostructures (Ag/AgO NSs) using the aqueous extract of the plant were prepared. The phytochemical compounds of the extract and essential oil were analyzed using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS), respectively.

Introduction: Gastroparesis is a disorder characterized by impaired gastric emptying and the accumulation of food in the intestines without any clear mechanical cause. Gastroparesis in critical care patients is a prevalent issue in the intensive care unit. The disruption of normal gastrointestinal motility in critically ill patients is linked to a significant risk of intolerance to enteral feeding, colonization of the gastrointestinal tract with pathogenic bacterial strains, increased permeability of the intestinal wall, translocation of the intestinal microbiota, leading to progressive malnutrition, and potential development of bacterial infection.
