Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) is a basic tool for genomic data treatment. Its test statistic is based on a cumulated weight function, and its distribution under the null hypothesis is evaluated by Monte-Carlo simulation. Here, it is proposed to subtract to the cumulated weight function its asymptotic expectation, then scale it. Under the null hypothesis, the convergence in distribution of the new test statistic is proved, using the theory of empirical processes. The limiting distribution needs to be computed only once, and can then be used for many different gene sets. This results in large savings in computing time. The test defined in this way has been called Weighted Kolmogorov Smirnov (WKS) test. Using expression data from the GEO repository, tested against the MSig Database C2, a comparison between the classical GSEA test and the new procedure has been conducted. Our conclusion is that, beyond its mathematical and algorithmic advantages, the WKS test could be more informative in many cases, than the classical GSEA test.

Recent work has established an alternative to traditional multi-layer perceptron neural networks in the form of Kolmogorov-Arnold Networks (KAN). The general KAN framework uses learnable activation functions on the edges of the computational graph followed by summation on nodes. The learnable edge activation functions in the original implementation are basis spline functions (B-Spline).

Introduction: According to the World Health Organization, adolescent pregnancy is defined as pregnancies of women aged 19 and below. The study aims to analyze the rates of adolescent pregnancies and maternal and fetal outcomes among births within the hospital and compare them with adult pregnancies.
Methods: The study is conducted retrospectively in one of Turkey's socio-economically underdeveloped provinces.

Early Lung Cancer (LC) detection is essential for reducing the global mortality rate. The limitations of traditional diagnostic techniques cause challenges in identifying LC using medical imaging data. In this study, we aim to develop a robust LC detection model.

Background: The correlation between serum cotinine and fatty liver index (FLI) needs further investigation for the early identification, prevention, and treatment of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD).
Methods: Data from the NHANES database spanning from March 2017 to 2018 was used to perform the population-based study to assess the relationship between serum cotinine and FLI. A variance estimation strategy was applied to address the data volatility.
