Background And Aims: Perioperative myocardial ischaemia (PMI) is one of the known complications during off pump coronary artery bypass (OPCAB) surgeries. The length of hospital stay is considerably prolonged in patients with PMI. Myocardial protection is an area which is being widely researched currently to prevent or reduce the incidence of PMI. Over the last decade it has become clear that volatile anaesthetic agents are protective in the setting of PMI and reperfusion. Hence, we planned to study the effect of two different volatile anaesthetics as myocardial protective agents in OPCAB surgery.
Methods: A total of 40 patients were enrolled for the study; Group A (sevoflurane, n = 20) and Group B (desflurane, n = 20). All patients had a baseline measurement of Trop-T, creatine phosphokinase-MB (CPKMB) and myocardial performance index (MPI) pre-operatively, which was repeated 4 h after the surgery. Chi-square/Fisher test was used to find the significance of the differences between the two agents.
Results: Patients were comparable in demographic, baseline, biochemical and echo criteria. Post-operative CPKMB levels (desflurane - 30.85 ± 2.69 u/L; sevoflurane - 29.05 ± 5.26 u/L, P = 0.7) and number of Trop-T positive patients (Sevoflurane - 9; desflurane - 6, P ≥ 0.05) were comparable. Post-operative MPI indicated decreased left ventricular function in sevoflurane group as compared to desflurane group (P ≤ 0.03).
Conclusion: Desflurane exerts better cardioprotective effect than sevoflurane as indicated by better MPI in OPCAB surgeries.

Background: Coronary heart disease the most prevalent form of cardiovascular disease, results from the blockage of blood flow through arteries. The Myocardial Perfusion Scan (MPS) is considered a non-invasive method to assess the heart condition and provides valuable information, such as End Diastolic Volume (EDV), End Systolic Volume (ESV), Ejection Fraction (EF), Lung to Heart Ratio (LHR), and Transient Ischemic Dilatation (TID).
Objective: This study aimed to investigate changes in gated heart scan parameters to diagnose patients, who are candidates for heart surgery.

Unlabelled: The emergency destruction of the 4th reactor of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant necessitated large-scale emergency work, which involved large contingents of specialists. Analysis the mortality of Chornobyl clean-up workers isan important and relevant basis for planning medical protection measures in conditions of a potential threat ofemergency and other radiation situations. The objective of this work is to determine the levels and relative risks of mortality of Chornobyl clean-up workers in1986-1987 years from major non-tumor diseases depending on the received dose of radiation exposure, taking intoaccount age and time after the accident (period of epidemiological studies 1988-2021).

Introduction: Cardioplegia (CP) is integral to myocardial protection during cardiac surgery. Two standard cardioplegic solutions viz. Del Nido solution (DNS) and St Thomas solution (STS) are widely used in cardiac surgeries.

Background: In observational studies, connections have been identified between iron status and myocardial infarction (MI). The significance of changes in iron status as either a risk factor or a result of MI remains unclear.
Methods: We obtained our instrumental variables from a meta-analysis of three GWASs in Iceland, the UK, and Denmark, which discovered 62 independent sequence variants across 56 loci linked to blood iron levels, ferritin, total iron binding capacity (TIBC), transferrin saturation (TSAT), and the Genetics of Iron Status (GIS) database for transferrin.

Anthracycline doxorubicin (DOX) remains the first-line chemotherapeutic drug for the efficient treatment of breast cancer, but its severe cardiotoxicity limits its long-term application in clinical tumor chemotherapy. Until now, the pathogenesis mechanism of DOX-induced cardiotoxicity (DIC) is still not fully understood. According to current studies, the oxidative stress caused by the imbalance of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS) production and mitochondrial dysfunction in myocardial cells are closely related to DIC.
