Four new guaiane sesquiterpenes from Agarwood of Aquilaria sinensis and their biological activity toward renal fibrosis.

Fitoterapia

October 2024

Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Biomimetic Materials and Cellular Immunomodulation, Institute of Biomedicine and Biotechnology, Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenzhen 518055, Guangdong, PR China. Electronic address:

Four undescribed guaiane sesquiterpenes, aquisinenoids I-L (2-5) and five known compounds were isolated from the resins of Aquilaria sinensis. Their structures were deduced based on spectroscopic data analysis, X-ray crystallography and ECD calculations. Biologically, compounds 1, 5, 6 and 9 showed anti-renal fibrosis activity, significantly reducing the levels of fibronectin, collagen I, and α-SMA.

Cytokine storm caused by the overproduction of inflammatory interleukin (IL)-6 plays a central role in the development of acute inflammation. The extremely rare disease, TAFRO syndrome, progresses quickly. Renal dysfunction, fever, reticulin fibrosis, anasarca, thrombocytopenia, and organomegaly with pathological findings such as idiopathic multicentric Castleman disease are all characteristics of TAFRO syndrome.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the molecular mechanisms of isoliensinine, a kind of bibenzyl isoquinoline alkaloid which isolated from a TCM named Lotus Plumule (), in treating renal interstitial fibrosis (RIF) by using RNA sequencing, KEGG analysis and in vivo experimental approaches.

Methods: Spontaneous hypertension rats (SHRs) were randomly assigned into five groups, consisting of SHR, SHR+Isoliensinine-L (2.5 mg/kg/day), SHR+Isoliensinine-M (5 mg/kg/day), SHR+Isoliensinine-H (10 mg/kg/day), and SHR+Valsartan (10 mg/kg/day) groups (n = 6 for each group).

Evolution in the Pathologic Classification of Renal Neoplasia.

Urol Clin North Am

May 2023

Department of Pathology, Robert J. Tomsich Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Institute, Cleveland Clinic, 2119 E. 96th Street, L25, Cleveland, OH 44106, USA. Electronic address:

The pathologic classification of renal tumors is a dynamic and complex process, which has evolved to a "histomolecular" driven system. Despite advances in molecular characterization, most renal tumors can be diagnosed by morphology with or without using a limited set of immunohistochemical stains. If access to molecular resources and specific immunohistochemical markers is limited, pathologists may face difficulties in following an optimal algorithm to classify renal tumors.
