Advances in technology have assisted in the proliferation of short-term, faith-based international medical mission trips. Many of these mission trips include health care not only to local citizens but also building schools and churches and sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Included in this article are my own personal experiences in short-term, faith-based medical missions. A step-by-step guide is offered to help prepare inexperienced mission participants gain insight into short-term mission trips. Advanced planning, fundraising, collaboration, and being open to change are key elements to successful participation in these life-changing missions.

The Kapsowar Hospital is a hospital in rural Kenya with 2 plastic and reconstructive surgeons certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and has recently expanded clinical practice to include microsurgical procedures.

Domestic and global access to surgical care for paediatric hand and upper limb conditions is challenged by limited resources, increasing direct and indirect costs of care and a growing number of patients who require specialty care. There are numerous barriers for patients from developing countries to receiving medical care in Japan due to the substantial costs, which include travel, uninsured medical expenses and fees imposed by intermediaries. To address this issue, I realised that I needed to take a more direct approach - by travelling to these countries, not only to provide treatment, but also to teach and train local doctors.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study addresses disparities in neurosurgical care globally and examines how collaborations have shifted from traditional mission trips to partnerships, analyzing the impact of research funding on these collaborations using a graph theoretical approach.
  • - A bibliometric search found 307 neurosurgical articles published from 1985 to 2020, revealing that co-authorship rates between high-income and low- or middle-income countries have increased significantly, especially after 2015, with LMIC-LMIC partnerships rising at a faster pace than others.
  • - Research funding plays a crucial role in fostering collaborations, as funding from charitable organizations and government grants was linked to increased co-authorship between LMIC and HIC authors, while most LMIC-LMIC co-authorship
