In situ visualization has become a popular method for avoiding the slowest component of many visualization pipelines: reading data from disk. Most previous in situ work has focused on achieving visualization scalability on par with simulation codes, or on the data movement concerns that become prevalent at extreme scales. In this work, we consider in situ analysis with respect to ease of use and programmability. We describe an abstraction that opens up new applications for in situ visualization, and demonstrate that this abstraction and an expanded set of use cases can be realized without a performance cost.

Revisiting the unobtrusive role of exogenous stem cells beyond neural circuits replacement in spinal cord injury repair.

Theranostics

January 2025

Department of biochemistry and molecular biology, College of Life Sciences, Central South University, Changsha, 410078, Hunan, China.

Stem cell transplantation is a promising strategy to establish neural relays in situ for spinal cord injury (SCI) repair. Recent research has reported short-term survival of exogenous cells, irrespective of immunosuppressive drugs (ISD), results in similar function recovery, though the mechanisms remain unclear. This study aims to validate this short-term repair effect and the potential mechanisms in large animals.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the stability of small-incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) and laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) when ascending from near sea level to an altitude of 3874 m. The visual acuity (VA), intraocular pressure (IOP), spherical equivalent refraction (SER) and biometric parameters of 20 normal subjects (40 eyes, controls) and 36 subjects who underwent corneal refractive surgery (35 eyes with SMILE and 36 eyes with LASIK) were examined in Chongqing (C, 500 m above sea level) and 7-10 days after a collective travel to Shigatse (S, 3874 m above sea level). SER and corneal thickness (CT) were choosed as main indicators of the stability of corneal refractive surgery at high altitude.

Heterogeneous catalysts have emerged as a potential key for closing the carbon cycle by converting carbon dioxide (CO) into value-added chemicals. In this work, we report a highly active and stable ceria (CeO)-based electronically tuned trimetallic catalyst for CO to CO conversion. A unique distribution of electron density between the defective ceria support and the trimetallic nanoparticles (of Ni, Cu, Zn) was established by creating the strong metal support interaction (SMSI) between them.

Stress Granule Induction in Rat Retinas Damaged by Constant LED Light.

Invest Ophthalmol Vis Sci

January 2025

Universidad Nacional de Córdoba. Facultad de Ciencias Químicas. Departamento de Química Biológica Ranwel Caputto. Córdoba, Argentina.

Purpose: Stress granules (SGs) are cytoplasmic biocondensates formed in response to various cellular stressors, contributing to cell survival. Although implicated in diverse pathologies, their role in retinal degeneration (RD) remains unclear. We aimed to investigate SG formation in the retina and its induction by excessive LED light in an RD model.

Tenomodulin (TNMD) is related to chondromodulin-1, a cartilage-derived growth regulator. It is specifically expressed in hypovascular connective tissues, including tendons and ligaments. Vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A) and calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) correlate with angiogenesis and neurogenesis, respectively, during development.
