Introduction: At the initial consultation, the speech-language pathologist and audiologist may consider possible diagnostic hypotheses based on the child's history and the parents' complaint.
Aim: To investigate the association of hearing complaints with the findings obtained in the conventional audiologic assessment in children with cleft lip and palate. Retrospective study.
Methods: We analyzed medical charts of 1000 patients with cleft lip and palate who underwent surgical repair between 1988 and 1995 at a mean age of 6 years 8 months. We excluded charts with records of inconsistent audiological responses and charts with missing data for any of the audiologic evaluations considered. Thus, the sample consisted of 393 records.
Results: Two hundred thirty-nine patients presented hearing loss in one or both ears, but only 3.8% reported hearing complaints. The most frequent were otorrhea followed by otalgia. There was no statistical significance between the complaint and gender (p = 0.26) nor between the complaint and hearing loss (p = 0.83).
Conclusion: This study showed no association between the hearing complaint and the conventional audiologic assessment.

Introduction: Despite the reported auditory deficits and developmental challenges in children with unilateral microtia and aural atresia (UMAA), there remains a lack of consensus on early intervention with bone conduction hearing aids (BCHAs) to restore binaural hearing due to the uncertain clinical benefits and intolerability of the conventional devices. Previous studies investigating the auditory benefits under binaural hearing condition were limited and demonstrated controversial opinions in heterogenous patient groups with various devices. Our study aimed to evaluate the audiological performance, including monoaural and binaural hearing, and subjective satisfaction of the ADHEAR system, a novel adhesive BCHA, in experienced pediatric users with UMAA.

Introduction: Both hearing loss and dementia are associated with ageing, and it is thought that many individuals living with dementia also live with hearing loss. Despite the large comorbidity between these two disorders, there remains a clear lack of established guidelines in audiological services for assessing and managing patients living with dementia. This scoping review aims to examine whether specialist clinical pathways exist in audiology services for people living with coexisting hearing loss and dementia and to describe the specific components and features of these pathways.

Background And Objectives: The immersive virtual reality (VR) simulator is advantageous because it is cost-effective, realistic, can be controlled directly by the user, and can be integrated into education and training in otorhinolaryngology. The present study explored the feasibility of incorporating VR pure-tone audiometry (PTA) into an audiologist training curriculum, and assessed audiology experts' willingness to use a VR PTA.
Materials And Methods: A total of 31 audiologists (16 skilled audiologists and 15 undergraduate students) participated in the study, using a developed VR PTA application with a Meta Quest 2 device.

Objectives: Implantable bone conduction hearing devices offer excellent auditory rehabilitation. Transcutaneous devices, which use an implanted magnet, are gaining popularity due to higher skin complications associated with traditional percutaneous devices. The Cochlear Baha® Attract System (Cochlear Corporation, Sydney, Australia) is a transcutaneous device and is regarded as a passive transcutaneous implant.

Introduction: The results from different Cochrane studies justify considerable professional equipoise concerning different treatment options for tinnitus. In case of professional equipoise, Shared Decision Making (SDM) is an indispensable tool for guiding patients to the intervention that best fits their needs. To improve SDM we developed a method to assess the accuracy and utility of decisions made by tinnitus patients when freely choosing between different treatment options during their patient journey.
