Building of hierarchical core-shell hetero-structures is currently the subject of intensive research in the electrochemical field owing to its potential for making improved electrodes for high-performance micro-supercapacitors. Here we report a novel architecture design of hierarchical MnO2@silicon nanowires (MnO2@SiNWs) hetero-structures directly supported onto silicon wafer coupled with Li-ion doped 1-Methyl-1-propylpyrrolidinium bis(trifluromethylsulfonyl)imide (PMPyrrBTA) ionic liquids as electrolyte for micro-supercapacitors. A unique 3D mesoporous MnO2@SiNWs in Li-ion doped IL electrolyte can be cycled reversibly across a voltage of 2.2 V and exhibits a high areal capacitance of 13 mFcm(-2). The high conductivity of the SiNWs arrays combined with the large surface area of ultrathin MnO2 nanoflakes are responsible for the remarkable performance of these MnO2@SiNWs hetero-structures which exhibit high energy density and excellent cycling stability. This combination of hybrid electrode and hybrid electrolyte opens up a novel avenue to design electrode materials for high-performance micro-supercapacitors.

Lattice oxygen (O) redox chemistry is a key to alleviating the energy and environmental crisis, but it faces challenges in activating the O while ensuring structural stability. We disclosed herein that engineering a heterogeneous interface between ultrathin oxide and amorphous carbon can attain the durable O redox chemistry without introducing catalytically impure sites. To this end, we proposed a green strategy to grow ∼3.

The lifespan of aqueous zinc ion batteries (AZIB) has been hindered by the instability of zinc anodes, encountering challenges such as irregular dendritic growth, corrosion and hydrogen evolution reactions. In this study, we address these challenges by employing atomic-layer deposition (ALD) to create an ultrathin, conductive titanium oxynitride (TiNO) coating with abundant zincophilic sites. This atomic-scale coating serves as a bi-functional barrier that isolates the zinc metal from the electrolyte, thereby reducing spontaneous corrosion and mitigating hydrogen evolution.

Lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries represent the most promising next-generation energy storage systems because of their high theoretical specific capacity and energy density. However, the severe shuttle effect and volume expansion of sulfur cathodes have impeded their commercial viability. Hence, accelerating the conversion of lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) is crucial for achieving efficient Li-S batteries.

In this work, we present a novel colorimetric sensing platform for the sensitive detection of ethamsylate (ETM) usingultrathin MnO nanosheets with enhancedoxidase-mimicking activity. A facile template-free hydrothermal process was applied to synthesize the MnO nanosheets under mild conditions. The nanosheets exhibited oxidase-mimicking activity, facilitating the conversion of TMB into the blue-colored oxTMB in the absence of HO.

To accurately detect tumor marker carbohydrate antigen 72-4 (CA72-4) of serum samples is of great significance for the early diagnosis of malignant tumors. In the present study, MnO/hollow nanobox metal-organic framework (HNM)-AuPtPd nanocomposites were prepared via multi-step synthesis and superposition method and a series of characterizations were carried out. A highly sensitive immunosensor Ab/MnO/HNM-AuPtPd/GCE based on the composite nanomaterial was further prepared and used to detect the tumor marker CA72-4.
