Policy-oriented population health targets, such as the Millennium Development Goals and national targets to address health inequities, are typically based on trends of a decade or less. To test whether expanded timeframes might be more apt, we analyzed 50-year trends in US infant death rates (1960-2010) jointly by income and race/ethnicity. The largest annual per cent changes in the infant death rate (between -4 and -10 per cent), for all racial/ethnic groups, in the lowest income quintile occurred between the mid-1960s and early 1980s, and in the second lowest income quintile between the mid-1960s and 1973. Since the 1990s, these numbers have hovered, in all groups, between -1 and -3 per cent. Hence, to look back only 15 years (in 2014, to 1999) would ignore gains achieved prior to the onset of neoliberal policies after 1980. Target setting should be informed by a deeper and longer-term appraisal of what is possible to achieve.

Hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, low platelet count (HELLP) syndrome is a severe complication of preeclampsia (PE), with a higher incidence rate in people living at high altitudes, such as Tibet area. Maternal HELLP syndrome is associated with an elevated neonatal mortality rate. The purpose of this study was to investigate the predicting factors for neonatal outcomes with maternal HELLP syndrome.

Background: Severe pulmonary infection is the primary cause of death in children aged < 5 years. The early identification of pathogenic bacteria and targeted anti-infective therapies can significantly improve the prognosis of children with severe infections. This study aims to provide a reference for the rational use of antibiotics at an early stage in children with severe pulmonary infections.

Background: We synthesised the current evidence in coverage and quality of delivery care, change in neonatal mortality (NMR), and causes of neonatal death in the private sector deliveries in the Indian state of Bihar from 2011 to 2021.
Methods: Women aged 15-49 years with livebirths were interviewed in three household surveys involving state-representative samples in 2011, 2016 and 2020-2021 designed to document the coverage of maternal and newborn health services and change in NMR over time. Verbal autopsy interviews were used to assign the cause of neonatal death.

Background And Purpose: In the late 1990s, the Nordic countries, with Norway at the top, were among the countries with the highest prostate cancer mortality in the world. We present updated mortality rates from the Nordic countries and discuss possible interpretations of changes in trends.
Material And Methods: Age-standardized rates for prostate-specific mortality in 1985-2022, estimated lifetime risk of death (0-84 years) and annual changes in mortality were obtained from the NORDCAN database.

Background: Since the implementation of China's comprehensive two-child policy, the prevalence of long interpregnancy intervals (IPI) and advanced maternal age has increased. However, previous studies in China have mostly focused on the relationship between short IPIs and adverse perinatal outcomes, while neglecting maternal age as a potential confounder.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of 23,899 pregnant women who delivered between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2019 at Chengdu Women's and Children's Central Hospital and West China Second Hospital of Sichuan University.
