Applying the direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method developed for ultracold Bose-Fermi mixture gases research, we study the sympathetic cooling process of 6Li and 133Cs atoms in a crossed optical dipole trap. The obstacles to producing 6Li Fermi degenerate gas via direct sympathetic cooling with 133Cs are also analyzed, by which we find that the side-effect of the gravity is one of the main obstacles. Based on the dynamic nature of 6Li and 133Cs atoms, we suggest a two-stage cooling process with two pairs of crossed beams in microgravity environment. According to our simulations, the temperature of 6Li atoms can be cooled to T = 29.5 pK and T/TF = 0.59 with several thousand atoms, which propose a novel way to get ultracold fermion atoms with quantum degeneracy near pico-Kelvin.

Background: Although brief skin cooling (BSC) is widely used in sports medicine and rehabilitation for its positive effects on motor performance, the mechanism underlying this motor facilitation effect remains unclear.
Objectives: To explore the hypothesis that BSC enhances muscle force generation, with cold-induced sympathetic activation leading to heightened muscle spindle sensitivity, thereby contributing to this effect.
Methods: The study involved two experiments.

We entangle two cotrapped atomic barium ion qubits by collecting single visible photons from each ion through in vacuo 0.8 NA objectives, interfering them through an integrated fiber beam splitter and detecting them in coincidence. This projects the qubits into an entangled Bell state with an observed fidelity lower bound of F>94%.

Perfusion index (PI), the ratio between variable pulsatile (AC) and non-pulsatile (DC) components in a photoplethysmographic (PPG) signal, is an indirect and non-invasive measure of peripheral perfusion. PI has been widely used in assessing sympathetic block success, and monitoring hemodynamics in anesthesia and intensive care. Based on the principle of dual-wavelength depolarization (DWD) of skin tissues, we propose to investigate its opportunity in quantifying the skin perfusion contactlessly.

We demonstrate a new temperature record for image-current mediated sympathetic cooling of a single proton in a cryogenic Penning trap by laser-cooled ^{9}Be^{+}. An axial mode temperature of 170 mK is reached, which is a 15-fold improvement compared to the previous best value. Our cooling technique is applicable to any charged particle, so that the measurements presented here constitute a milestone toward the next generation of high-precision Penning-trap measurements with exotic particles.

Full-body PPE is favoured for its comprehensive protection against the virus but poses challenges to the body's thermoregulatory system as it inhibits air exchange. This randomised trial was undertaken to investigate the effects of wearing a commonly used gown-type full-body PPE kit in a simulated environment.
