Subnanometric samples, containing exclusively Ag2 and Ag3 clusters, were synthesized for the first time by kinetic control using an electrochemical technique without the use of surfactants or capping agents. By combination of thermodynamic and kinetic measurements and theoretical calculations, we show herein that Ag3 clusters interact with DNA through intercalation, inducing significant structural distortion to the DNA. The lifetime of Ag3 clusters in the intercalated position is two to three orders of magnitude longer than for classical organic intercalators, such as ethidium bromide or proflavine.

Epitaxial Growth of Silver Clusters from Ag57 to Ag72 via Laminating Multiple Different Anion Templates.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

The established capability of anion templates in precisely manipulating the size, geometry, and function of metal clusters is well acknowledged. However, the development of a systematic methodology for orchestrating the assembly of silver clusters, particularly those encompassing multiple distinct types of anion templates, remains elusive due to the formidable synthetic challenge. In this work, we report two novel silver clusters, Ag57 and Ag72, using two and three different anion templates, respectively.

In order to build and design stable molecular structures of α-D-glucose molecules after adding to a cluster of silver atoms, an optimization process was precisely carried out for α-D glucose/Ag3 molecule at low energy. The correlation between glucose molecule and silver atoms is evaluated by investigating configurational and electronic features of the named molecules by adopting the Density functional theory DFT using the hybrid B3LYP functional and 6-311+G∗ as a basis set for C, O, and H atoms, while LANL2DZ set for silver (Ag) atoms. Frequencies of vibrational modes are essential analyses that have been instrumental in understanding the IR spectra of studied molecules.

Genome sequencing and comparative genome analysis of AG-3.

Front Microbiol

April 2024

State Key Laboratory for Protection and Utilization of Bio-Resources in Yunnan, Yunnan Agricultural University, Kunming, Yunnan, China.

Article Synopsis
  • AG-3 is a plant pathogenic fungus classified into three subgroups based on ITS cluster analysis: AG-3 TB (tobacco target spots), AG-3 PT (potato black scurf), and AG-3 TM (tomato leaf blight).
  • A previous study found most tobacco target spot strains from Yunnan belonged to AG-3 TB, while strains from Liaoning had a unique classification in AG-3 TM.
  • This study sequenced the whole genomes of two AG-3 strains and performed comparative genomic analysis, revealing similarities and differences in genome size, coding genes, and virulence factors among the strains, while establishing a closer genetic relationship between the two AG-3 strains sequenced.

The current study was carried out to screen 10 isolates (ARS-01-ARS-10) of from potato tubers cv. Kuroda, which were collected from various potato fields in Multan, Pakistan. The isolates were found to be morphologically identical, as the hyphae exhibit the production of branches at right angles and acute angles often accompanied by septum near the emerging branches.

Metal nanoclusters deposited on oxides have been widely used in photocatalysis playing an important role in the design of model catalysts with applications in heterogeneous catalysis. In particular, we are interested in the potential activity of these cluster-supported systems for the removal of nitrogen oxides either by possible catalytic reduction and/or by their adsorption. In this work, using first-principles methods, we evaluate the main characteristics of Ag (n = 1-4) nanoclusters isolated and deposited on anatase TiO(101) and rutile TiO(110) surfaces.
