The Association Between Hearing Loss and Depression in a Large Electronic Health Record System.

Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg

January 2025

Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons,  NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, New York, New York, USA.

Objective: Hearing loss (HL) is associated with depression, but existing datasets are limited by the type of data available for both hearing and mental health conditions. The purpose of this study is to determine if there is an association between HL and depressive disorders within a large bi-institutional electronic health record (EHR) system containing more granular diagnostic information.

Study Design: Cross-sectional epidemiologic study.

Tartary buckwheat (Fagopyrum tataricum), a functional grain known for its medicinal and nutritional properties, has garnered significant attention due to its high flavonoid content and unique health benefits. Heat stress during the flowering stage can lead to sterility in Tartary buckwheat, resulting in reduced yields. This study investigates the effects of a treatment (30/27 °C for 7 days) on flower development, fertility, stress physiology, and gene expression in Tartary buckwheat, while also validating the efficacy of hormone treatments in alleviating the negative effects of heat stress.

This research presents an innovative polarization-insensitive metasurface (MS) harvester designed for energy harvesting applications at 5 GHz, capable of operating efficiently over wide reception angles. The proposed MS features a novel wheel-shaped resonator array whose symmetrical structure ensures insensitivity to the polarization of incident electromagnetic (EM) waves, enabling efficient energy absorption and minimizing reflections. Unlike conventional designs, the metasurface achieves near-unity harvesting efficiency, exceeds 94% under normal incidence, and maintains superior performance across various incident angles for TE and TM polarizations.

Chip defect detection is a crucial aspect of the semiconductor production industry, given its significant impact on chip performance. This paper proposes a lightweight neural network with dual decoding paths for LED chip segmentation, named LDDP-Net. Within the LDDP-Net framework, the receptive field of the MobileNetv3 backbone is modified to mitigate information loss.

A Parallel Image Denoising Network Based on Nonparametric Attention and Multiscale Feature Fusion.

Sensors (Basel)

January 2025

School of Electronic and Information Engineering, Ankang University, Ankang 725000, China.

Convolutional neural networks have achieved excellent results in image denoising; however, there are still some problems: (1) The majority of single-branch models cannot fully exploit the image features and often suffer from the loss of information. (2) Most of the deep CNNs have inadequate edge feature extraction and saturated performance problems. To solve these problems, this paper proposes a two-branch convolutional image denoising network based on nonparametric attention and multiscale feature fusion, aiming to improve the denoising performance while better recovering the image edge and texture information.
