Conditioned suppression is a useful paradigm for measuring learned avoidance. In most conditioned suppression studies, forward conditioning is used where a cue predicts an aversive stimulus. However, backward conditioning, in which an aversive stimulus predicts a cue, provides unique insights into learned avoidance due to its influence on both conditioned excitation and inhibition.

Context: The oral health-related early childhood quality of life (OH-ECQoL) tool, designed to evaluate how dental issues affect preschoolers' and their family's quality of life (QoL), has been translated and validated in many languages. However, it has not yet been adapted into the Konkani language.

Aim: Cross-cultural adaptation of OH-ECQoL tool for use in the Konkani-speaking population in the state of Goa among primary caregivers of children aged 24-71 months.

The Internet of Vehicles (IoV), a key component of smart transportation systems, leverages 5G communication for low-latency data transmission, facilitating real-time interactions between vehicles, roadside units (RSUs), and sensor networks. However, the open nature of 5G communication channels exposes IoV systems to significant security threats, such as eavesdropping, replay attacks, and message tampering. To address these challenges, this paper proposes the Efficient Cluster-based Mutual Authentication and Key Update Protocol (ECAUP) designed to secure IoV systems within 5G-enabled sensor networks.

Enabling Fast AI-Driven Inverse Design of a Multifunctional Nanosurface by Parallel Evolution Strategies.

Nanomaterials (Basel)

December 2024

Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering, Iowa State University, Ames, IA 50011, USA.

Multifunctional nanosurfaces receive growing attention due to their versatile properties. Capillary force lithography (CFL) has emerged as a simple and economical method for fabricating these surfaces. In recent works, the authors proposed to leverage the evolution strategies (ES) to modify nanosurface characteristics with CFL to achieve specific functionalities such as frictional, optical, and bactericidal properties.

In response to the current situation of backward automation levels, heavy labor intensities, and high accident rates in the underground coal mine auxiliary transportation system, the mining trackless auxiliary transportation robot (MTATBOT) is presented in this paper. The MTATBOT is specially designed for long-range, space-constrained, and explosion-proof underground coal mine environments. With an onboard perception and autopilot system, the MTATBOT can perform automated and unmanned subterranean material transportation.
