A (Ti-35mass%Nb)-4mass%Sn alloy was cross-roll rolled with a reduction ratio of 70% in which the roll axes are tilted by ± 5 degrees away from the transverse direction of the rolled sample and then aged at 250 degrees C for 2 h. Cross-roll rolling was found to increase yield strength and Young's modulus, simultaneously. Yield strength was higher in cross-roll rolled than in conventionally rolled at same reduction ratio. Yield and tensile strength further increased by a low temperature ageing by ψ precipitation hardening and microstructure refinement. Yield and tensile strength of the aged 70% cross-roll rolled sample were higher than those of the aged 70% conventionally rolled one.

Rayleigh-Bénard convection in a horizontal layer of a non-Newtonian fluid between slabs of arbitrary thickness and finite thermal conductivity is considered. The first part of the paper deals with the primary bifurcation and the relative stability of convective patterns at threshold. Weakly nonlinear analysis combined with Stuart-Landau equation is used.

In this study, the gas-atomized Cu-15%Ga alloy powder was consolidated by cross-roll rolling using copper can without crack and oxidation, where the roll axis was tilted by 5 degrees against TD in the RD-TD plane. Microstructures of formed Cu-15%Ga alloy were examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) and optical microscopy (OM). Density of the cross-roll rolled specimens was measured using Archemeded method.

We report the pattern dynamics in the vicinity of an inverse homoclinic bifurcation in an extended dissipative system. We observe, in direct numerical simulations of three dimensional Rayleigh-Bénard convection with stress-free top and bottom plates, a spontaneous breaking of a competition of two mutually perpendicular sets of oscillating cross rolls to one of two possible sets of oscillating cross rolls as the Rayleigh number is raised above a critical value. The time period of the oscillating cross-roll patterns diverges and shows scaling behavior near the bifurcation point.

We present a few-mode Galerkin model for convection in binary fluid layers subject to an approximation to realistic horizontal boundary conditions at positive separation ratios. The model exhibits convection patterns in form of rolls and squares. The stable squares at onset develop into stable rolls at higher thermal driving.
