Unlabelled: Background. Corticosteroid hormones are widely used to treat a variety of diseases. Corticosteriods have been shown to impair wound healing, which has become a serious clinical problem in wound care. The present study was designed to evaluate the efficacy of topical and systemic beta glucan administration on wound healing impaired by corticosteroids.

Methods: Wistar albino rats were used for the incision and excision wound models. Percentage of wound contraction, epithelialization period, hydroxyproline level, histopathological examination, and tensile strength were evaluated.

Results: Although both systemic and local administration of beta glucan enhanced percentage wound contraction, improved epithelialization time, tensile strength, and elevated hydroxyproline level, systemic administration was found to be more effective.

Conclusion: These results indicate that systemic and topical beta glucan improve wound healing that has been impaired by corticosteroids, and that systemic administration is more effective than topical application.

Mannan and β-(1→3)-glucan are two polysaccharide markers that are characteristic for a number of fungal pathogens, including , which is the most common cause of invasive mycoses in humans. In this study, we examined epitope specificity of two monoclonal antibodies, CM532 and FG70, which recognize certain oligosaccharide fragments of these fungal polysaccharides. Using a panel of biotinylated oligosaccharides as coating antigens, we found that the CM532 antibody obtained by immunization with the pentamannoside β-Man-(1→2)-β-Man-(1→2)-α-Man-(1→2)-α-Man-(1→2)-α-Man KLH conjugate, selectively recognizes the trisaccharide β-Man-(1→2)-α-Man-(1→2)-α-Man epitope.

Dectin-1 (CLEC7A), a C-type lectin-like receptor that recognizes β-1,3 glucans, has a key role in the innate immune system. While the lectin domain of mouse Dectin-1 has been solubilized and refolded from inclusion bodies in Escherichia coli, similar refolding of the human Dectin-1 lectin domain is hindered by the formation of misfolded multimers with aberrant intermolecular disulfide bonds. The aim of this study was to develop a method for the large-scale production of the human Dectin-1 lectin domain.

is the specific pathogen for "milky disease" in the Chinese mitten crab (), accounting for huge losses to the industry. And yet, there is no precise study describing the pathogenesis of , largely hindering the development of novel control methods against its causing diseases. Here, we compared the transcriptomes of cells collected from a control group (cultured without hemocytes) and a treatment group (cultured with hemocytes), using RNA sequencing.
