Antagonisation of Prokineticin Receptor-2 Attenuates Preeclampsia Symptoms.

J Cell Mol Med

January 2025

Interdisciplinary Research Institute of Grenoble, IRIG-Biosanté, University Grenoble Alpes, INSERM, CEA, UMR 1292, Grenoble, France.

Preeclampsia (PE) is the most threatening pathology of human pregnancy. Placenta from PE patients releases harmful factors that contribute to the exacerbation of the disease. Among these factors is the prokineticin1 (PROK1) and its receptor, PROKR2 that we identified as a mediators of PE.

Personalized Nanovaccine Based on STING-Activating Nanocarrier for Robust Cancer Immunotherapy.

ACS Nano

January 2025

Medical Research Center, The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, The Center of Infection and Immunity, Academy of Medical Sciences, Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou, Henan 450001, China.

Tumor-specific T cells play a vital role in potent antitumor immunity. However, their efficacy is severely affected by the spatiotemporal orchestration of antigen-presentation as well as the innate immune response in dendritic cells (DCs). Herein, we develop a minimalist nanovaccine that exploits a dual immunofunctional polymeric nanoplatform (DIPNP) to encapsulate ovalbumin (OVA) via electrostatic interaction when the nanocarrier serves as both STING agonist and immune adjuvant in DCs.

Nanotechnology has emerged as a revolutionary domain with diverse applications in medicine, and one of the noteworthy developments is the exploration of bacterial magnetosomes acquired from magnetotactic bacteria (MTB) for therapeutic purposes. The demand for natural nanomaterials in the biomedical field is continuously increasing due to their biocompatibility and eco-friendly nature. MTB produces uniform, well-ordered magnetic nanoparticles inside the magnetosomes, drawing attention due to their unique and remarkable features.

Exploring TNFR1: from discovery to targeted therapy development.

J Transl Med

January 2025

School of Medicine, Shanghai Baoshan Luodian Hospital, Shanghai University, Shanghai, 201908, China.

This review seeks to elucidate the therapeutic potential of tumor necrosis factor receptor 1 (TNFR1) and enhance our comprehension of its role in disease mechanisms. As a critical cell-surface receptor, TNFR1 regulates key signaling pathways, such as nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB) and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK), which are associated with pro-inflammatory responses and cell death. The intricate regulatory mechanisms of TNFR1 signaling and its involvement in various diseases, including inflammatory disorders, infectious diseases, cancer, and metabolic syndromes, have attracted increasing scholarly attention.

Heavy Medicine: The Need for Ethical Stewardship of Metal and Metalloid-based Medicines and Technologies.

Metallomics

January 2025

Mayo Clinic, 200 1st St SW, Rochester, Minnesota 55902, United States, 507-538-7241.

Metals and metalloids including cobalt, gadolinium, lutetium and germanium are used in numerous medical applications spanning diverse specialities including orthopedics, radiology, oncology and healthcare artificial intelligence. These medical advances include cobalt containing orthopedic implants, gadolinium-based contrast agents, lutetium-containing cancer drugs and germanium-based semiconductors. While these metal and metalloid-based solutions do improve patient care, there is a heavy side to how the elements needed for these solutions are mined, extracted and discarded.
