Article Synopsis
  • The study explored the link between delirium and tryptophan (TRP) along with its metabolites in older critically ill patients (aged >60) admitted to an ICU, involving 120 participants.* -
  • Results showed that patients with delirium had significantly higher levels of kynurenine (KYN)/TRP and quinolinic acid (QA)/TRP ratios and lower TRP levels compared to those without delirium, with the KYN/TRP ratio being a strong predictor for delirium.* -
  • The findings suggest that measuring tryptophan and its metabolites within the first 24 hours of ICU admission may help identify patients at high risk for developing delirium.*

A computational signature of self-other mergence in Borderline Personality Disorder.

Transl Psychiatry

November 2024

Max Planck-UCL Centre for Computational Psychiatry and Ageing Research, University College London, London, UK.

A tendency to merge mental representations of self and other is thought to underpin the intense and unstable relationships that feature in Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). However, clinical theories of BPD do not specify, in computational terms, how the perspectives of self and other might become confused. To address this question, we used a probabilistic false belief task (p-FBT) to examine how individuals with BPD (N = 38) and matched controls from the general population (N = 74) selectively assigned beliefs to self or other.

Childhood leprosy, which affects children up to 14 years old, is characterized by a delay in diagnosis since it is usually confused with other dermatoses. Its presence in a child is a relevant epidemiological indicator since it signals active disease transmission. We present 4 patients between 5 and 14 years old who attended a public hospital in Buenos Aires -two patients with borderline tuberculoid leprosy, one with lepromatous leprosy, and one with indeterminate leprosy.
