Objective: Submandibular salivary gland inflammation has been suggested as one of the mechanisms underlying impaired salivary secretion associated with sleep deprivation (SD). However, whether the salivary inflammatory response occurs to the same extent in paradoxical sleep deprivation with or without sleep recovery remains unknown. This study evaluated the extent to which inflammation influences salivary impairments associated with paradoxical sleep deprivation with or without sleep recovery.

Background: Complete blood cell count-based ratios (CBRs), including the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and monocyte-lymphocyte ratio (MLR), are inflammatory markers associated with postoperative morbidity. Given the link between the surgical stress response and complications after total joint arthroplasty (TJA), this study aimed to evaluate whether higher preoperative CBR values predict greater postoperative benefits associated with dexamethasone utilization.
Methods: The Premier Healthcare Database was queried for adult patients who underwent primary, elective total hip or knee arthroplasty (THA or TKA).

Background And Aims: Alcohol-related liver disease (ALD) is one of the leading causes of severe liver disease with limited pharmacological treatments for alcohol-related steatohepatitis (ASH). CD44, a glycoprotein mainly expressed in immune cells, has been implicated in multiple inflammatory diseases but has never been studied in the ALD context. We therefore studied its contribution to ASH development in mice and its expression in ALD patients.

Background: This study aimed to investigate the risk factors associated with the severity of the disease, the need for mechanical ventilation (MV) and poor prognosis in the early stages of Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS).
Methods: Data of children who met GBS diagnostic criteria were evaluated retrospectively. The sample was divided into three binary subgroups according to severe GBS (Hughes Functional Grading Scale [HFGS] ≥ 4 at admission), mechanical ventilation (MV) requirement, and poor prognosis (inability to walk independently, HFGS ≥ 3 after six months).

Background: Repeated polyserositis, another name for familial Mediterranean fever (FMF), is an autoimmune disorder with an autosomal recessive nature primarily characterized by short-lived repeated periods of peritonitis, pleuritis, and arthritis, generally accompanied by fever.
Methods: Our participants were divided into two groups. Group I (patients): 100 individuals who were diagnosed as patients with FMF and were monitored.
