With this document, the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI) provides an Expert Consensus on the role of multi-modality imaging (MMI) in the management of patients with multiple valvular heart disease (MVD). Emphasis is given to the use of MMI to unravel the diagnostic challenges that characterize these patients and to improve risk stratification. Complementing the last European Society of Cardiology and European Association of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery guidelines on valvular heart disease, this Expert Consensus document also outlines how MMI assessment should form an integral part of the multi-disciplinary heart team discussion for patients with MVD to help with complex decision-making regarding the choice and timing of treatment.

The Posterior Ligamentous Complex: Anatomic and Biomechanical Considerations in Injury Classification and Management.

J Am Acad Orthop Surg

January 2025

From the Department of Orthopaedics (A. Mo and F. Mo), Medstar Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, DC, and the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery (S. Lockey), University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA.

The posterior ligamentous complex (PLC) provides critical structural support in the thoracolumbar spine. Its role in resisting progressive flexion is particularly important at the thoracolumbar junction due to the transition from the rigid thoracic spine to the more mobile lumbar region. Each component of the PLC contains anatomic features that contribute to both the structure and function of the PLC as a whole.

Molecular imaging has significantly advanced the detection and analysis of in vivo metabolic processes, while single-modal techniques remain limited. Dual-modal imaging, particularly positron emission tomography (PET)-based combinations has emerged as a powerful solution, offering enhanced capabilities through integration with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or near-infrared fluorescence (NIRF) imaging. This review highlights recent progress in PET-based dual-modal imaging, focusing on the development of various bimodal probes derived from antibodies, nanoparticles, and peptides, and key applications including image-guided surgery and disease assessment.

Background: Minimally invasive pancreaticoduodenectomy (MIPD) is considered one of the most complex procedures in general surgery. The number of articles on MIPD has been increasing annually. However, published reports often have complex research directions, and the focal points frequently change.

Fenestrated/branched endovascular aortic repair emerges as the primary therapeutic modality for intricate aortic pathologies encompassing the paravisceral and thoracoabdominal segments, where bridging stent grafts (BSGs) play a vital role in linking the primary aortic endograft with target vessels. Bridging stent grafts can be categorized mainly into self-expanding stent grafts (SESGs) and balloon-expandable stent grafts (BESGs). Physiological factors significantly influence post-complex endovascular aortic repair BSG behaviour, impacting clinical outcomes of SESGs and BESGs in different but overlapping ways.
