Purpose: The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of disc hemorrhage (DH) and evaluate its related risk factors in an urban South Korean population.

Methods: This retrospective cross-sectional study included subjects who underwent health screening at the Health Screening Center of Kangbuk Samsung Hospital from August 2012 to July 2013. All fundus photographs were first reviewed by two ophthalmologists and then by two glaucoma specialists and one retina specialist to determine the presence of DHs. In addition to fundus photographs, each participant completed systemic examination as well as sociodemographic and behavioral questionnaires.

Results: Fundus photographs were available for 164,029/168,044 (97.61%) subjects 20 years and older. The prevalence of DH was 226/164,029 (0.14%; 95% confidence interval, 0.12 to 0.16) per subject. A large proportion (61.5%) of eyes with DH had localized wedge-shaped retinal nerve fiber layer defects indicative of glaucoma. There was also a slight increase in DH prevalence with age, but no other statistically significant associations were found.

Conclusions: The prevalence of DH was 0.14% in urban South Korean subjects 20 years and older. Older age and the presence of glaucomatous retinal nerve fiber layer defects were associated with higher prevalence of DH. These findings suggest that the presence of a DH in an eye implies a high likelihood of glaucoma, although its absence does not indicate that glaucoma is absent.

Z boson events at the Large Hadron Collider can be selected with high purity and are sensitive to a diverse range of QCD phenomena. As a result, these events are often used to probe the nature of the strong force, improve Monte Carlo event generators, and search for deviations from standard model predictions. All previous measurements of Z boson production characterize the event properties using a small number of observables and present the results as differential cross sections in predetermined bins.

Importance: Pediatric obesity and hypertension are highly correlated. To mitigate both conditions, provision of counseling on nutrition, lifestyle, and weight to children with high blood pressure (BP) measurements is recommended.

Objective: To examine racial and ethnic disparities in receipt of nutrition, lifestyle, and weight counseling among patients with high BP at pediatric primary care visits stratified by patients' weight status.

Background: Each year, nearly 400,000 new cases of paediatric hydrocephalus are estimated to occur worldwide, and almost half of these cases are expected to affect children in Africa. At Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH), an urban tertiary hospital in Blantyre, Malawi, located in south-east Africa, around 200 children received neurosurgical treatment for hydrocephalus in 2023. These children require lifelong follow-up and care, which places significant demands on their caregivers.

Background: Screening for diabetes in non-traditional settings like emergency departments (ED) can enhance early detection among patients at higher risk for diabetes. This study aims to assess the reach of an ED-based screening program by examining the characteristics of patients screen-detected for diabetes or prediabetes.

Study Design: Retrospective cross-sectional study.

The experience of widowhood and that of living alone are significant life events that are strongly associated with depressive symptoms in older adults. Nevertheless, few studies have examined the relationship between widowhood, living alone, and depressive symptoms among Chinese older adults, particularly with regard to the duration of widowhood. This study included 4,644 older adults aged 65 and above from the 2015, 2018, and 2020 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS).
