We evaluated the effect of iron ion chelation on the growth of gliomas and radiotherapy efficiency in tumor-bearing animals. The rats with transplanted glioma-35 received iron-containing water; desferroxamine was injected for metal chelation. Long-term treatment with iron-containing water promoted glioma growth in rats and improved the efficiency of radiotherapy due to combination of apoptosis and ferroptosis. Desferroxamine reduced the efficiency of this treatment and was inessential for the efficiency of radiotherapy alone.

Anoxygenic photosynthetic bacteria (APB) have been frequently detected as a photoautotrophic Fe-carbon cycling drivers in photic and anoxic environment. However, the potential capacity of these bacteria for photoheterotrophic extracellular reduction of iron-containing minerals and their impact on the transformation of organic pollutants remain currently unknown. This study investigated the capacity of R.

The development of materials toward ppb-level nitric oxide (NO) sensing at room temperature remains in high demand for the monitoring of respiratory inflammatory diseases. In order to find an iron-containing molecule without steric hindrance to combine with graphene for room temperature NO gas sensing, here a supramolecular assembly of ferrocene (Fc) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) was designed and prepared for NO sensing. The assembly of Fc/rGO was characterized using FT-IR, TEM, and XPS measurements.

In this study, chitosan and iron-containing water treatment residues were used to prepare a chitosan/Fe-sludge particle adsorbent (CHFS) via the embedding method for Sb(III) removal. Various technologies were applied to characterize the CHFS, and batch experiments were used to investigate its adsorption properties. The results show that CHFS adsorbents are amorphous and have a specific surface area (119.

Large-scale implementation of NTO (5-nitro-1,2,4-triazol-3-one), an energetic material used in military applications, causes its discharge to the environment. Reduction of NTO with bacterial nitroreductase or iron-containing minerals results in the formation of ATO (5-amino-1,2,4-triazol-3-one), which is an important intermediate in the process of NTO degradation in the environment. ATO may be dissolved in surface water and groundwater due to its good water solubility.
