A novel dual-emission ratiometric fluorescence probe is designed and developed by linking two parts, positively charged aggregation-induced emission (AIE) organic fluorescence nanoparticles (OFNs) as the reference and negatively charged Au nanoclusters (Au NCs) as the response, by electrostatic attraction for the first time. This probe can be used for not only visual but quantitative determination of Hg(2+) as well as melamine, because red fluorescence of Au NCs can be quenched by mercury ions and recovered by melamine, due to the strong affinity metallophilic Hg(2+)-Au interaction and stronger affinity Hg(2+)-N. During this process, the green fluorescence of AIE-OFNs remains constant owing to the protection of ε-polylysine (ε-Ply). In addition, the prepared dual-emission ratiometric fluorescence probe has good biocompatibility, indicating the potential of the probe in applications of biological imaging and detection. The results revealed that this dual-emission ratiometric fluorescence probe broadens the application of AIE-based organic fluorescent nanoparticles, and presents a new method to prepare more sensitive, biocompatible, and visual ratiometric fluorescent probes.

Bovine serum albumin (BSA) is one of the most abundant proteins in serum, and its high-throughput detection is still one of the current challenges. Nitrogen‑phosphorus co-doped carbon dots (CDs) were synthesized by a hydrothermal method. Adenosine monophosphate (AMP) was used as a precursor for the synthesis of CDs, providing the required carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus sources for the CDs.

A dual supersaturation recrystallization method was employed to synthesize water-stable, highly sensitive cesium-lead halide perovskite nanocrystals (CsPbBr PNCs). The PNCs exhibited excellent water stability, a significant photoluminescence quantum efficiency of 83.03%, along with a narrow full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 20 nm.

Developing near-infrared fluorescent probes for simultaneous tracking of lipid droplets (LDs) and lysosomes is highly desirable for studying cell metabolism. In this work, deep-red/near-infrared dual-emission carbonized polymer dots (DN-CPDs) were prepared for ratiometric monitoring of the intracellular polarity. Detailed structural analysis revealed that the deep-red emission and near-infrared peak of DN-CPDs originate from the molecular state and surface state, respectively.

The development of fluorescent sensors with high sensitivity and fast response times is attracting the interest of more and more researchers. Herein, dual-emission ratiometric molecularly imprinted fluorescent encoded microspheres were fabricated and applied for the fast detection of norfloxacin. Core-shell-structured imprinted polymers with ZIF-8 as the supporting core were obtained first and two quantum dots with green and red emission provided the fluorescent signal.

The increasing incidence of foodborne illnesses highlights the need for rapid, sensitive, and portable methods to detect pathogenic bacteria in food. In this work, we develop a portable method that utilizes a ratiometric fluorescence nanoprobe for adenosine triphosphate (ATP) quantification. The nanoprobe is constructed by encapsulating Ru(bpy) within a zirconium-based metal-organic framework, followed by functionalization of double-stranded DNA (dsDNA).
