The authors made a biochemical comparative analysis of the blood taken during early autopsies from the portal and hepatic veins and structural-metabolic state of the liver tissue. It is concluded that this analysis is of great importance for morphofunctional substantiation of hepatic insufficiency.

Background: Mediterranean diet may enhance cognitive function and delay the progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD). We conducted a systematic review to investigate the effect of oleocanthal (OC) from extra-virgin olive oil (EVOO) on amyloid-β (Aβ) burden in preclinical models of AD, considering the anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects of EVOO biophenols, which are key components of the Mediterranean dietary model.

Methods: The literature was searched through six electronic databases until February 2023.

Article Synopsis
  • Substantial sleep impairment is increasingly recognized in Alzheimer's disease (AD), with early sleep-wake cycle alterations noted even in individuals without cognitive decline.
  • This review investigates the complex relationship between sleep disturbances and AD, highlighting how sleep issues may contribute to the disease's development and vice versa.
  • The findings suggest that addressing sleep homeostasis could be a modifiable risk factor for AD, emphasizing the need for non-pharmacological interventions and further research to improve outcomes for those affected.

Article Synopsis
  • Testicular tumors (TTs) in children are uncommon and present unique challenges for diagnosis and treatment; this study examines the role of markers SALL4 and OCT3/4 in understanding these tumors.
  • In a review of 18 pediatric cases, SALL4 was found in 83.3% of the tumors, while OCT3/4 was found in 38.9%, with a noted age-related difference in prevalence.
  • The research indicates that using SALL4 and OCT3/4 can enhance diagnostic accuracy and treatment strategies, particularly highlighting OCT3/4's potential as a predictive factor for different tumor types and treatment responses.

Background: Radiofrequency thermal ablation (RFA) coupled with vertebroplasty or kyphoplasty offers a minimally invasive, safe, and efficacious approach to palliate polymetastatic spine disease, particularly in medically fragile individuals. However, the application of robotic assistance to RFA for spinal metastases remains unexplored. This study elucidates the technical viability of robot-assisted RFA combined with vertebroplasty in patients afflicted by multiple spinal metastases and presents preliminary outcomes.
