Objective: To identify existing return-to-work (RTW) guidelines following a sickness absence (SA) due to musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) and evaluate their methodological quality.

Methods: We performed a systematic search for RTW guideliness written in English, Spanish and Catalan, that included total or partial information on MSD. The identified guidelines were evaluated qualitatively and quantitatively by seven experts using the validated AGREE method. Standardized scores for each domain were calculated for each of the guidelines, as well as the median of the experts scores for each of the items. In addition, each expert made a subjective judgment on the quality of the selected guidelines.

Results: Thirty-two guidelines were identified. From these, 6 (3 of which were MSD-specific) were selected for an evaluation of their methodological quality. Only two, the Official Disability Guidelines (ODG) and the Work-related Musculoskeletal Disorders Guide & Tools (WRGT) were felt to be suitable for use without further methodological modifications. In general, all of the guidelines properly define their objectives and target audience, and the RTW options are presented in a clear and precise way. However, all guides but one (ODG) have limitations in the criteria for selection of scientific evidence, and the potential conflicts of interest are not stated.

Conclusions: Only two guides of high methodological quality were identified. However, an evidence-based evaluation of the quality of their recommendations is recommended prior to their use in professional practice.

Objectives: In advanced stages of osteoradionecrosis, medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw, and osteomyelitis, a resection of sections of the mandible may be unavoidable. The determination of adequate bony resection margins is a fundamental problem because bony resection margins cannot be secured intraoperatively. Single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT-CT) is more accurate than conventional imaging techniques in detecting inflammatory jaw pathologies.

Purpose: Aromatase inhibitor-associated musculoskeletal symptoms (AIMSS) are the most common adverse effects experienced by breast cancer patients. This scoping review aimed to systematically synthesize the predictors/risk factors and outcomes of AIMSS in patients with early-stage breast cancer.

Methods: A systematic search was conducted in PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, CINAHL, and the China National Knowledge Internet (CNKI) from inception to December 2024 following the scoping review framework proposed by Arksey and O'Malley (2005).

ASIC1a mediated nucleus pulposus cells pyroptosis and glycolytic crosstalk as a molecular basis for intervertebral disc degeneration.

Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology, The Affiliated Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, Southwest Medical University, Luzhou, Sichuan Province, China.

Background: One of the etiologic components of degenerative spinal illnesses is intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD), and the accompanying lower back pain is progressively turning into a significant public health problem. Important pathologic characteristics of IVDD include inflammation and acidic microenvironment, albeit it is unclear how these factors contribute to the disease.

Purpose: To clarify the functions of inflammation and the acidic environment in IVDD, identify the critical connections facilitating glycolytic crosstalk and nucleus pulposus cells (NPCs) pyroptosis, and offer novel approaches to IVDD prevention and therapy.

The Sharp-van der Heijde score (SvH) is crucial for assessing joint damage in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) through radiographic images. However, manual scoring is time-consuming and subject to variability. This study proposes a multistage deep learning model to predict the Overall Sharp Score (OSS) from hand X-ray images.

With the emergence of numerous classifications, surgical treatment for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) can be guided more effectively. However, surgical decision-making and optimal strategies still lack standardization and personalized customization. Our study aims to devise proper deep learning (DL) models that incorporate key factors influencing surgical outcomes on the coronal plane in AIS patients to facilitate surgical decision-making and predict surgical results for AIS patients.
