Public opposition to genetically modified organisms (GMOs) remains strong. By contrast, studies demonstrate again and again that GM crops make a valuable contribution to the development of a sustainable type of agriculture. The discrepancy between public opinion and the scientific evidence requires an explanation. We argue that intuitive expectations about the world render the human mind vulnerable to particular misrepresentations of GMOs. We explain how the involvement of particular intuitions accounts for the popularity, persistence, and typical features of GM opposition and tackle possible objections to our approach. To conclude, we discuss the implications for science education, science communication, and the environmental movement.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a fatal metabolic disease characterized by persistent hyperglycemia. In recent studies, mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)-derived exosomes, which are being investigated clinically as a cell-free therapy for various diseases, have gained attention due to their biomimetic properties that closely resemble natural cellular communication systems. These MSC-derived exosomes inherit the regenerative and protective effects from MSCs, inducing pancreatic β-cell proliferation and inhibiting apoptosis, as well as ameliorating insulin resistance by suppressing the release of various inflammatory cytokines.

Bioabsorbable polymer microneedles are highly attractive as modernized medical devices for efficient yet safe transdermal drug delivery and biofluid biopsy. In this study, the elastoplastic deformation of polymer microneedles, having a high aspect ratio (over 5-10), is investigated using poly(lactic) acid polymer approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration to be generally considered safe. Microneedle geometries are comprehensively analyzed for tip geometries comprising the tip diameter (ϕ) and tip taper length (l) of 100 designs.

The ERBB2 is one of the most studied genes in oncology for its significant role in human malignancies. The metastasis-associated properties that facilitate cancer metastasis can be enhanced by activating the ERBB2 receptor signaling pathways. Additionally, therapeutic resistance is conferred by ERBB2 overexpression via receptor-mediated antiapoptotic signals.

In-stent restenosis (ISR) following interventional therapy is a fatal clinical complication. Current evidence indicates that neointimal hyperplasia driven by uncontrolled proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) is a major cause of restenosis. This implies that inhibiting VSMC proliferation may be an attractive approach for preventing in-stent restenosis.

Purpose: Advanced prostate cancer (PCa) is invariably fatal with the androgen receptor (AR) being a major therapeutic target. AR signaling inhibitors have improved overall survival for men with advanced PCa, but treatment resistance is inevitable and includes reactivation of AR signaling. Novel therapeutic approaches targeting these mechanisms to block tumor growth is an urgent unmet clinical need.
