The importance of parents as "interventionists" is supported by reviews of the treatment literature (e.g., Smit, Verdurmen, Monshouwer, & Smit, 2008; Winters, Botzet, Fahnhorst, & Koskey, 2009) as well as the emerging science that home-based initiatives by parents can contribute to desired health changes in adolescents (Fearnow, Chassin, Presson, & Sherman, 1998; Jackson & Dickinson, 2006). Parental influences on an adolescent can include reducing initiation, as well as altering its maintenance if it has started. This paper describes a project aimed helping parents to deal with a teenager who has already started to use alcohol or other drugs. is a home-based, parent-led program aimed at reversing the trajectory of drug use in an already drug-using adolescent. The program's content is organized around motivational enhancement and cognitive behavioral techniques. The ongoing study will also be discussed.

DNA replication ensures the precise transmission of genetic information from parent to daughter cells. In eukaryotes, this process involves the replication of every base pair within a highly complex chromatin environment, encompassing multiple levels of chromatin structure and various chromatin metabolic processes. Recent evidence has demonstrated that DNA replication is strictly regulated in both temporal and spatial dimensions by factors such as 3D genome structure and transcription, which is crucial for maintaining genomic stability in each cell cycle.

Emamectin benzoate (EMB) is a widely used insecticide that can accumulate in aquatic environments under specific conditions of high application intensity or improper management, posing potential risks to aquatic organisms and human health. This study aimed to evaluate the reproductive toxicity of long-term EMB exposure in zebrafish (Danio rerio) and neurodevelopmental toxicity in their offspring. Zebrafish embryos were exposed to various concentrations of EMB (0, 0.

Background: Currently, approximately 100 million people are displaced worldwide, including children and young adults. Previous studies showed exposure to violence and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are common in this sub-population. However, we still lack comprehensive data on well-being, mental health, and the ability to function.

Polo-like kinase 1 (Plk1) is an important cell cycle regulator that is a recognized target for development of anti-cancer therapeutics. Plk1 is composed of a catalytic kinase domain (KD), a flexible interdomain linker and a polo-box domain (PBD). Intramolecular protein-protein interactions (PPIs) between the PBD and KD result in "auto-inhibition" that is an essential component of proper Plk1 function.

Surgeons' views on hypospadias care journey: A qualitative study.

J Pediatr Urol

November 2024

School of Medicine and Public Health, The University of Newcastle, NSW, Australia; Urology Unit, Department of Surgery, The Children's Hospital at Westmead, NSW, Australia; Faculty of Medicine, The University of Sydney, NSW, Australia. Electronic address:

Background: Three major parties are involved in the hypospadias treatment journey - the patient, their parents/carers, and the surgeon. There is a strong trend towards involving all three, where possible, in deriving evidence around the care pathways. Currently, there are little data available on surgeons' perspectives of distal hypospadias care.
