Diabetic Charcot neuroarthropathy: A threat to both limb and life.

Diabetes Obes Metab

January 2025

Midstate Endocrine Associates, Lipscomb University, Nashville, Tennessee, USA.

Article Synopsis
  • Diabetic Charcot neuroarthropathy (DCN) is a rare but serious complication of diabetes, particularly affecting those with diabetic neuropathy, where the incidence rises to 30%, especially among type 1 diabetics.
  • It typically presents as a painless, swollen, and warm foot or ankle, with MRI and X-ray revealing specific joint abnormalities, often in a particular order.
  • Treatment primarily involves prolonged immobilization and offloading, with potential but unproven therapeutic options; there's a high risk of amputation and increased mortality, especially when foot ulcers are present, necessitating surgical intervention to prevent recurrence.

Prevent lumping during hot-water rehydration of lotus rhizome powder by restricted swelling treatment.

Food Chem

December 2024

State Key Laboratory of Food Science and Resources, Nanchang University, Nanchang 330047, China; International Institute of Food Innovation Co, Ltd, Nanchang University, Nanchang 330200, China. Electronic address:

Lotus rhizome powder (LRP) tends to lump during hot-water rehydration, adversely affecting its edible quality. By utilizing a restricted swelling treatment (ST), where LRP was swollen at a temperature slightly below its onset gelatinization temperature (T), the lumping rate could be substantially reduced from 30.95% to 6.

Textiles with thermal/moisture managing functions are of high interest. However, making the textile sensitive to the surrounding environment is still challenging. Herein, a multimodal smart fabric is developed by stitching together the Ag coated thermal-humidity sensitive thermoplastic polyurethane (Ag-THSPU) and the hybrid of polyvinylidene fluoride and polyurethane (PU-PVDF).

Dynamic rheological behavior of high-amylose wheat dough during various heating stages: Insight from its starch characteristics.

Int J Biol Macromol

June 2024

Grain, Oil and Food Engineering Technology Research Center of the State Grain and Reserves Administration, Key Laboratory of Henan Province, College of Food Science and Technology, Henan University of Technology, Zhengzhou, Henan 450001, China; Food Laboratory of Zhongyuan, Luohe, Henan 462300, China. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • The study explored how high-amylose wheat (HAW) dough behaves rheologically during heating, focusing on the effects of starch properties.
  • At temperatures from 30°C to 90°C, HAW dough showed low torque values due to less starch swelling, and demonstrated good resistance to shear and enzyme degradation at 90°C.
  • The findings suggest that HAW dough’s rheological behaviors mirror their starch pasting profiles, which is important for creating firm-textured, low-viscosity food products.

Institute of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Freie Universität Berlin, Takustr. 3, 14195 Berlin, Germany; Cluster of Excellence Matters of Activity, Image Space Material funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) under Germany's Excellence Strategy - EXC 2025, Germany; Institute of Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry, Leibniz Universität Hannover, Callinstr. 3A, 30167 Hannover, Germany. Electronic address:

Decellularized extracellular matrix (dECM) is an excellent natural source for 3D bioprinting materials due to its inherent cell compatibility. In vat photopolymerization, the use of dECM-based bioresins is just emerging, and extensive research is needed to fully exploit their potential. In this study, two distinct methacryloyl-functionalized, photocrosslinkable dECM-based bioresins were prepared from digested porcine liver dECM through functionalization with glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) or conventional methacrylic anhydride (MA) under mild conditions for systematic comparison.
