Objective: This study focuses on epidermal growth factor receptor-mutated lung adenocarcinoma, known for frequent brain metastasis. It aimed to compare the clinical outcomes and cost-effectiveness of combining Gamma Knife radiosurgery (GKRS) with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) (GKRS+TKI group) versus TKIs alone (TKI group) for the treatment of patients with newly diagnosed brain metastasis in this condition.

Methods: Study characteristics of the two groups were matched using inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW).

Study Question: Do polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), menstrual cycle phases, and ovulatory status affect reproductive tract (RT) microbiome profiles?

Summary Answer: We identified microbial features associated with menstrual cycle phases in the upper and lower RT microbiome, but only two specific differences in the upper RT according to PCOS status.

What Is Known Already: The vaginal and uterine microbiome profiles vary throughout the menstrual cycle. Studies have reported alterations in the vaginal microbiome among women diagnosed with PCOS.

Background: Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) is essential for diagnosing cardiomyopathy, serving as the gold standard for assessing heart chamber volumes and tissue characterization. Hemodynamic forces (HDF) analysis, a novel approach using standard cine CMR images, estimates energy exchange between the left ventricular (LV) wall and blood. While prior research has focused on peak or mean longitudinal HDF values, this study aims to investigate whether unsupervised clustering of HDF curves can identify clinically significant patterns and stratify cardiovascular risk in non-ischemic LV cardiomyopathy (NILVC).

Refractory small cell lung cancer with pancreatic metastasis: A case report.

Medicine (Baltimore)

January 2025

Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, The Affiliated Hospital of Inner Mongolia Medical University, Inner Mongolia, Hohhot, China.

Rationale: The occurrence of refractory small cell lung cancer (rSCLC) with pancreatic metastasis is a relatively rare clinical condition, which is typically accompanied by a poor prognosis and rapid disease progression.

Patient Concerns: A 65-year-old male farmer from China was diagnosed with limited-stage small cell lung cancer (SCLC) 8 months ago. Following 6 cycles of EP chemotherapy, the patient's tumor response showed partial relief.

Hearing loss in patients with Morquio A syndrome: A scoping review.

Medicine (Baltimore)

January 2025

Centro de Investigaciones en Anomalías Congénitas y Enfermedades Raras (CIACER), Universidad Iccesi, Cali, Colombia.

Background: Hearing impairment is a prevalent clinical feature in Morquio syndrome (mucopolysaccharidosis IVA or MPS IVA) patients, often presenting in diverse forms: conductive, sensorineural, or a combination known as mixed hearing loss. The mixed form entails a blend of both conductive and sensorineural elements, typically exhibiting a progressive trajectory. This scoping review aimed to comprehensively analyze available evidence pertaining to the pathophysiology, classification, epidemiology, and clinical management of hearing loss in individuals with MPS IVA.
