It is well known that when coarse-grained metals undergo severe plastic deformation to be transformed into nano-grained metals, their ductility is reduced. However, there are no ductile fracture criteria developed based on grain refinement. In this paper, we propose a new relationship between ductile fracture and grain refinement during deformation, considering factors besides void nucleation and growth. Ultrafine-grained Al-Mg alloy sheets were fabricated using different rolling techniques at room and cryogenic temperatures. It is proposed for the first time that features of the microstructure near the fracture surface can be used to explain the ductile fracture post necking directly. We found that as grains are refined to a nano size which approaches the theoretical minimum achievable value, the material becomes brittle at the shear band zone. This may explain the tendency for ductile fracture in metals under plastic deformation.

The influence of varying hydrogen content on the microstructure, mechanical properties, and fracture behavior of the metastable β titanium alloy TB8 after hydrogen charging has been investigated in this study. Several characterization methods, including optical microscopy (OM), x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), were employed to comprehensively analyze the alloy. The results show that with the addition of hydrogen, hydrogen mainly accumulated at grain boundaries in the form of hydrides.

Statement Of Problem: Infrared radiation heating (IRH) technology has been innovatively applied to the annealing of selective laser melted (SLM) cobalt chromium (Co-Cr) frameworks. However, previous studies have not reported the effects of IRH on the warping deformation and mechanical properties of these frameworks.
Purpose: The purpose of this in vitro study was to investigate the effects of IRH on the warping deformation and mechanical properties of dental SLM Co-Cr alloy and to evaluate its potential applications in dental restorations.

Taking the titanium alloy wing-body connection joint at the rear beam of a certain type of aircraft as the research object, this study analyzed the failure mechanism and verified the structural safety of the wing-body connection joint under actual flight loads. Firstly, this study verified the validity of the loading system and the measuring system in the test system through the pre-test, and the repeatability of the test was analyzed for error to ensure the accuracy of the experimental data. Then, the test piece was subjected to 400,000 random load tests of flight takeoffs and landings, 100,000 Class A load tests, and ground-air-ground load tests, and the test piece fractured under the ground-air-ground load tests.

The bending stiffness of beams represents a pivotal parameter influencing both the dimensions of the elements during their design and their subsequent utilisation. It is evident that excessive deflections can cause discomfort to users and contribute to further structural degradation. The objective of this study was to enhance the bending stiffness of timber beams by bonding a composite sheet to their external surfaces.
