Background: Within the city of Bradford in West Yorkshire, South Asian and Eastern European communities have an increased risk of childhood tooth decay, especially among families with Limited English Proficiency. Tooth decay is preventable, with national guidelines advocating home-based behaviours (toothbrushing with fluoride toothpaste and reducing sugar intake). In England, Health Visitors have opportunities to undertake oral health conversations during universal visits for children aged 0-24 months.

Knowledge of the health personnel involved in the fluoride varnish therapy programs of primary schools in Tehran, Iran.

BMC Oral Health

June 2024

Mental Health Research Center (MHRC), School of Behavioral Sciences and Mental Health, Tehran Institute of Psychiatry, Iran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran.

Introduction: The World Health Organization (WHO) places great importance on oral health promotion programs in schools, given that approximately one billion people worldwide are students. This demographic not only includes the students themselves, but also extends to school staff, their families, and the broader community, all of whom are interconnected. The objectives of this study were firstly to assess the knowledge of health personnel conducting fluoride varnish treatment (FVT) in schools, and secondly to solicit their views on the effectiveness of their training methods.

Vibration Energy Conversion Power Supply Based on the Piezoelectric Thin Film Planar Array.

Sensors (Basel)

November 2022

State Key Laboratory of Functional Materials for Informatics, Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai 200050, China.

Vibration energy harvesting has received much attention as a new type of power solution for low-power micro/nano-devices. However, VEH (vibration energy harvester) based on PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) piezoelectric materials have a low output power and energy conversation efficiency due to the relatively low piezoelectric constant, coupling coefficient, and dielectric constant. For this reason, we design a vibration energy conversion power supply, which consists of a VEH with a PVDF piezoelectric thin film planar array vibration structure and an energy harvesting circuit for regulating the electric energy of multiple sources.

Introduction: Standardized patient (SP) methodology has been used in health professional education to help students develop communication, deeper diagnostic reasoning, and critical thinking skills. Few examples demonstrate the use of SPs to practice difficult conversations with pediatric caregivers in the pediatric dentistry literature. The objective of this educational activity was to describe the implementation of three SPs in a pediatric dentistry course for second-year dental students.
