Conspiratorial narratives as cultural repertoires and methodological tools.

Br J Sociol

January 2025

İstanbul Medeniyet Üniversitesi, Istanbul, Turkey.

This article builds on data and field work notes from two ethnographic studies conducted in two cities: Istanbul and Trabzon, Turkey. It examines the socio-political dynamics behind the prevalence and impact of conspiratorial narratives. We explore the emergence, circulation, and effects of these narratives and how they shape political orientations and mobilisation.

Reduction of ringing artifacts induced by diaphragm drifting in free-breathing dynamic pulmonary MRI using 3D koosh-ball acquisition.

Magn Reson Med

November 2024

National Engineering Research Center of Advanced Magnetic Resonance Technologies for Diagnosis and Therapy, School of Biomedical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China.

Purpose: To reduce the ringing artifacts of the motion-resolved images in free-breathing dynamic pulmonary MRI.

Methods: A golden-step based interleaving (GSI) technique was proposed to reduce ringing artifacts induced by diaphragm drifting. The pulmonary MRI data were acquired using a superior-inferior navigated 3D radial UTE sequence in an interleaved manner during free breathing.

Optimizing Contrast in Automated 4D STEM Cryotomography.

Microsc Microanal

July 2024

Department of Chemical and Biological Physics, Weizmann Institute of Science, 234 Herzl St, Rehovot 7610001, Israel.

4D STEM is an emerging approach to electron microscopy. While it was developed principally for high-resolution studies in materials science, the possibility to collect the entire transmitted flux makes it attractive for cryomicroscopy in application to life science and radiation-sensitive materials where dose efficiency is of utmost importance. We present a workflow to acquire tomographic tilt series of 4D STEM data sets using a segmented diode and an ultrafast pixelated detector, demonstrating the methods using a specimen of a T4 bacteriophage.

Navigating the semantic space: Unraveling the structure of meaning in psychosis using different computational language models.

Psychiatry Res

March 2024

Department of Translation & Language Sciences, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Carrer Roc Boronat, 138, Barcelona, 08018, Spain; Intitut Català de Recerca i Estudis Avançats (ICREA), Barcelona, Spain.

Speech in psychosis has long been ascribed as involving 'loosening of associations'. We pursued the aim to elucidate its underlying cognitive mechanisms by analysing picture descriptions from 94 subjects (29 healthy controls, 18 participants at clinical high risk, 29 with first-episode psychosis, and 18 with chronic schizophrenia), using five language models with different computational architectures: FastText, which represents meaning non-contextually/statically; BERT, which represents contextual meaning sensitive to grammar and context; Infersent and SBERT, which provide sentential representations; and CLIP, which evaluates speech relative to a visual stimulus. These models were used to quantify semantic distances crossed between successive tokens/sentences, and semantic perplexity indicating unexpectedness in continuations.

Background: Intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) diffusion weighted MRI (DWI) has potential for evaluating hepatic fibrosis but image acquisition technique influence on diffusion parameter estimation bears investigation.

Purpose: To minimize variability and maximize repeatably in abdominal DWI in terms of IVIM parameter estimates.

Study Type: Prospective test-retest and image quality comparison.
