Alimentary iron deficiency causes significant changes in thiol content: the increase in the content of protein sulfhydryl groups in organs at late stages and the decrease in that of non-protein sulfhydryl groups at early stages of experiment. A preliminary introduction of 10 mg/kg fine iron powder (FIP) into animals fed iron-free food leads to the decrease in sulfhydryl group content in organs and blood of experimental mice. The decrease in sulfhydryl group content at FIP introduction might be connected with changes in activity of glutathione-dependent enzymes.

The effect of solution pH on the formation and surface structure of 2-pyrazinethiolate (2-PyzS) self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) formed by the adsorption of 2-mercaptopyrazine (2-PyzSH) on Au(111) was investigated using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and X-ray photoelectron microscopy (XPS). Molecular-scale STM observations clearly revealed that 2-PyzS SAMs at pH 2 had a short-range ordered phase of (2√3 × √21)R30° structure with a standing-up adsorption structure. However, 2-PyzS SAMs at pH 8 had a very unique long-range ordered phase, showing a "ladder-like molecular arrangement" with bright repeating rows.

The green unicellular algae contains 12-13 carbonic anhydrases (CAs). For a long time, the two closely related α-CAs of the periplasmic membrane CAH1 and CAH2 were considered to be the CAs with the highest CO hydration activity. The recombinant protein α-CA CAH3 (rCAH3) from the thylakoid lumen obtained in the present study showed more than three times higher activity compared to CAH1 and more than 11 times higher compared to previous studies with rCAH3.

To enhance production efficiency, curtail costs, and minimize environmental impact, developing simple and sustainable nanozyme synthesis methods has been the focus of relevant research. In this report, graphite-coated CeO nanoparticles (CeO NPs) with multiple defects (Ce defects, oxygen vacancies and carbon defects) were synthesized the culture filtrate of the extremely radioresistant bacterium R12 ( R12). The as-prepared CeO NPs exhibit remarkable oxidase (OXD)-like activity, efficiently catalyzing the oxidation of the chromogenic substrate 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to form oxTMB, even in the absence of HO.
