Prosthetic liners and sockets insulate the residual limb, causing excessive sweating and concomitant skin maceration. When coupled with atypical loading conditions, further dermatologic problems can arise. This can significantly reduce the quality of life of an amputee patient. Improving the design of the prosthetic socket has been proposed as a means of reestablishing a normal thermal environment around the residual limb. In this study, a prosthetic socket was modified by incorporating a helical cooling channel within the socket wall using additive manufacturing techniques. Two sockets were modeled: a control socket, and a modified socket containing a 0.48 cm diameter cooling channel. Computer simulations and bench-top testing were used to assess the design's ability to create a greater temperature differential across the socket wall. A greater temperature drop across the socket wall suggested that the socket could provide cooling benefits to the residual limb by allowing for heat to be drawn away from the limb. The temperature difference across the socket wall was calculated for both sockets in each aspect of the study. Both socket type (p=0.002) and location on the socket (p=0.014) were statistically significant factors affecting the temperature difference between inner and outer socket walls. Compared with the control socket, the modified socket containing a helical cooling channel exhibited greater temperature differences across its wall of 11.1 °C and 6.4 °C in the computer simulations and bench-top testing, respectively. This finding suggested that socket modifications, such as the cooling channel presented, could provide a beneficial cooling effect to an amputee patient's residual limb.

Delayed tooth extraction socket (TES) healing can cause failure of subsequent oral implantation and increase socioeconomic burden on patients. Excessive amounts of M1 macrophages, apoptotic neutrophils (ANs), and neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) impair alveolar bone regeneration during TES healing. In the present study, we first discovered that conditioned medium (CM) collected from berberine-treated human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BBR-HB-CM) accelerated TES healing.

Rehabilitation is often complex for persons with transfemoral amputation, and poor socket fit is one of the main factors affecting gait re-education, rehabilitation, and quality of life. The present study systematically reviewed the literature to test whether the subischial socket provides better outcomes in comfort, quality of life, and mobility than other transfemoral sockets. Systematic review and meta-analysis.

Introduction: Elevated glucose can have a detrimental effect on the function and healing process of periodontal cells in inflammatory conditions. Hesperidin (HPN), a bioflavonoid found abundantly in citrus fruits, has numerous biological benefits, including regenerative and anti-inflammatory properties. The current in-vitro study aimed to assess the impact of HPN on the proliferation, wound healing, and functionality of periodontal cells in optimal and elevated glucose conditions.

Background: Anatomically formed healing abutments were suggested in literature to address many of the issues associated with immediate posterior implant insertion such as large extraction sockets that are extremely hard to seal without reflecting the mucoperiosteal flap, extraction sockets anatomy that are not suitable for regular healing abutment placement, and potentially high occlusal stresses when planning a temporary implant supported prothesis to improve the conditioning of supra implant tissue architecture and the emergence profile of the implant supported restorations.
Purpose: To clinically evaluate the peri-implant soft tissue profile of single posterior implant retained restorations and to assess patient related outcomes of the implant restorations that were conditioned immediately by CAD-CAM socket sealing abutments (SSA) versus those conditioned by Titanium (Ti) standard healing abutments (SHA).
Methods: Twenty participants received twenty-two single maxillary immediate implants after flapless minimally invasive tooth extraction and 3D guided implant placement in the posterior area (premolar and molar) and allocated randomly into two groups (n = 11), the intervention group: patients received PEEK SSA and the control group: the patients received Ti SHA.

Bilateral anophthalmia, a clinical condition characterized by the absence of globe and ocular tissues from both the orbits, presents considerable challenges to a patient's daily routine and use of prostheses. The patient's inability to orientate custom ocular prostheses (COPs) 3-dimensionally is understandable, and they typically rely on caregivers to manage the prostheses and prevent inadvertent injury to the socket. This clinical report describes the successful integration of braille script into COPs as a solution to these challenges by improving prosthesis management, decreasing caregiver dependence, and encouraging independence.
