Published: April 2015

The cationic pseudo-square-planar complex tetrakis(1-methyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-imidazole-2-thione-κS)gold(III) trichloride sesquihydrate, [Au(C4H6N2S)4]Cl3·1.5H2O, was isolated as dark-red crystals from the reaction of chloroauric acid trihydrate (HAuCl4·3H2O) with four equivalents of methimazole in methanol. The Au(III) atoms reside at the corners of the unit cell on an inversion center and are bound by the S atoms of four methimazole ligands in a planar arrangement, with S-Au-S bond angles of approximately 90°.

Crystal-to-crystal polymerisation of monosubstituted [PWOCu(HO)] Keggin-type anions.

The reaction between neutral bis(picolinate)copper(II) complexes and copper(II)-monosubstituted Keggin-type phosphotungstate anions formed leads to the formation of the hybrid [C(NH)][{PWOCu(HO)}{Cu(pic)}]·10HO compound (1, pic = picolinate) in the presence of structure-directing guanidinium cations. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies demonstrate that 1 contains dimeric {PWOCu(HO)}{Cu(pic)} molecular species constituted by two Keggin-type anions linked by one {Cu(pic)} octahedral complex through axial coordination to their terminal oxygen atoms. The extensive hydrogen-bonding network established by guanidium cations and Keggin clusters plays a key role in retaining the crystallinity of the system throughout dehydration to allow a single-crystal-to-single-crystal (SCSC) transformation into the anhydrous [C(NH)][{PWOCu}{Cu(pic)}] (2a) at 170 °C.

A new square-planar palladium complex salt hydrate, (CHNO)[PdCl]·0.5HO, has been characterized. The asymmetric unit of the complex salt comprises two [PdCl] dianions, four 2-hy-droxy-2,3-di-hydro-1-inden-1-aminium cations, each derived from (1,2)-(+)-1-amino-indan-2-ol, and one water mol-ecule of crystallization.

A mononuclear square-planar Cu complex of (5-methyl-1-pyrazol-3-yl)carbamate, [Cu(CHNO)]·4HO, was synthesized using a one-pot reaction from 5-methyl-3-pyrazolamine and copper(II) acetate in water under ambient conditions. The adsorption of carbon dioxide from air was facilitated by the addition of di-ethano-lamine to the reaction mixture. While di-ethano-lamine is not a component of the final product, it plays a pivotal role in the reaction by creating an alkaline environment, thereby enabling the adsorption of atmos-pheric carbon dioxide.

Persistence of a Delocalized Radical in Larger Clusters of Hydrated Copper(II) Hydroxide, CuOH(HO).

J Phys Chem A

Department of Chemistry and Henry Eyring Center for Theoretical Chemistry, University of Utah, 315 South 1400 East, Salt Lake City, Utah 84112, United States.

The structures, vibrational spectra, and electronic properties of copper hydroxide hydrates CuOH(HO) were investigated with quantum chemistry computations. As a follow-up to a previous analysis of CuOH(HO), this investigation examined the progression as the square-planar metal coordination environment was filled and as solvation shells expanded. Four-, five-, and six-coordinate structures were found to be low-energy isomers.

Spectroscopy, molecular structure, and electropolymerization of Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes containing a thiophene-appending fluorinated Schiff base ligand.

Dalton Trans

In this contribution, we describe the preparation, characterization, and electrochemical behavior of a series of four new mononuclear M(II) complexes featuring a symmetric substituted NO-tetradentate Schiff base ligand, bearing either trifluoromethyl and -bromophenyl (M = Ni, 3; Cu, 4) or trifluoromethyl and the π-extended -(2-thienyl)phenylene (M = Ni, 5; Cu, 6) substituents. Complexes 3 and 4 were readily synthesized by reacting the diprotic fluorinated Schiff base proligand 2 with the appropriate hydrated metal(II) acetates, whereas 5 and 6 were obtained upon Stille cross-coupling reaction of 3 and 4 with 2-(tributylstannyl)-thiophene, respectively. Compounds 3-6 were isolated as neutral, air, and thermally stable-coloured solids, with yields ranging from 60 to 80%.
