The authors assessed and analysed factors responsible for the work incapacity and its duration in health workers. Statistical computing revealed a significantly longer work incapacity in workers suffering from diseases with a severe course. Work incapacity is adversely influenced also by poor living, working and social conditions. Institutes of national health can improve the situation by improving the position of their workers as regards the working, financial, social and health aspect.
