We present a case of a 57-year-old female patient with transient global amnesia, who later developed broken heart syndrome also known as takotsubo cardiomyopathy. The present case underlines that co-occurrence of both pathologies might still be an under-recognized clinical problem.

Microorganisms underpin numerous ecosystem processes and support biodiversity globally. Yet, we understand surprisingly little about what structures environmental microbiomes, including how to efficiently identify key players. Microbiome network theory predicts that highly connected hubs act as keystones, but this has never been empirically tested in nature.

An enriched environment (EE) constitutes a proficient strategy that instigates social, cognitive, and motor faculties, fostering healing and heightening learning and memory function after ischemia, while fucoidan derived from brown seaweed encompasses a diverse array of bioactivities and is known to possess neuroprotective properties. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of combining fucoidan and EE in a rat model of vascular dementia to overcome cognitive challenges. The rats were randomly assigned as Sham, Lesion - 4-vessel occlusion (4VO) i.

With the expanding global population, interest has increased in the sustainable aquaculture development of indigenous fishes. In Hawai'i, the brassy chub, Kyphosus vaigiensis, has drawn interest as a candidate species for production. However, little is known about its resilience in aquaculture settings where fish are exposed to acute, husbandry-related stressors.

Measuring transient functional connectivity is an important challenge in electroencephalogram (EEG) research. Here, the rich potential for insightful, discriminative information of brain activity offered by high-temporal resolution is confounded by the inherent noise of the medium and the spurious nature of correlations computed over short temporal windows. We propose a methodology to overcome these problems called filter average short-term (FAST) functional connectivity.
