Background: As a state of metabolic and nutritional derangements, protein-energy wasting (PEW) is highly prevalent and associated with increased morbidity and mortality in hemodialysis patients. Fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF-23) and Klotho have been proven to contribute to chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder (CKD-MBD) in patients undergoing hemodialysis. Previous evidence suggested that FGF-23 and Klotho may also contribute to the malnutritional status among these patients; however, the inter-relationship between the FGF-23-Klotho axis and PEW remains unclear.

Background: People who face restricted or uncertain physical and economic access to safe, sufficient, and nutritious food to suit their dietary needs or food choices for a productive, healthy, and active life are said to be in a state or situation of food insecurity. There is a dearth of evidence of individual and community-level factors associated with household-level food insecurity in Ethiopia. Thus, this study aimed to assess individual and community-level factors associated with household-level food insecurity to fill the aforementioned gap.

Department of Emergency Medicine, Samsung Medical Center, Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine, Seúl, República de Corea. Department of Digital Health, SAIHST, Sungkyunkwan University, Seúl, República de Corea.

Objective: To develop a Metabolic Derangement Score (MDS) based on parameters available after initial testing and assess the score's ability to predict survival after out-of hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) and the likely usefulness of extracorporeal life support (ECLS).

Methods: A total of 5100 cases in the Korean Cardiac Arrest Research Consortium registry were included. Patients' mean age was 67 years, and 69% were men.

Euglycemic diabetic ketoacidosis is a rare metabolic derangement seen in both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Initially characterized decades ago, the prevalence of euglycemic diabetic ketoacidosis has increased in recent years following the introduction of sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors. Here, we present a case of euglycemic diabetic ketoacidosis associated with SGLT2 inhibitors.

Introduction: Secondary insults due to high intracranial pressure (ICP), low cerebral perfusion pressure (CPP) and impaired cerebral pressure reactivity (PRx) predict outcome after severe traumatic brain injury (TBI).

Research Question: What is the prevalence, co-occurrence and prognostic importance of secondary insults due to deranged ICP, CPP or PRx after TBI.

Material And Methods: Severe TBI patients requiring ICP monitoring were included.
